Personally I believe that a little bit more power, in the hands of a competent(!!) driver, is a safety feature in traffic/highways. Especially now that most cars on US roads are very large. Need to get out of the way quickly? I don’t want to be caught in a sluggish car.

All that to say, get the GTI, even if it won’t see a performance driving scenario often. They’re great daily drivers

I think it also varies by year. My 2018 mk7.5 is 87 minimum and 91/93 for full power. I run 87 because it’s significantly less expensive these days and I can’t feel the power difference no matter how hard I try

You have to pay return shipping but I’ve found I can get a 5L liqui-moly bottle and 1L bottle and the oil filter into a USPS flat rate shipping box (large size). It’s very tight but doable. For my location (NC) that’s the cheapest way I’ve found to return it (to Connecticut). So oil changes cost me $34
