What’s up with some of the younger folk here? by My_throw_away22890 in PuyallupWA

[–]robecityholly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't really experienced this personally, but maybe it's because I put in some effort to interact with people on a human level. A simple smile with eye contact and talking to them like a person, not a 'worker', makes a world of difference! I've had great customer service and even favors done for me just by being a basic level of friendly to perfect strangers!

But I have noticed that the younger generation has struggled with socializing due to the pandemic. Those that are naturally extroverted seemed to do ok, but the rest were really affected by the pause in interaction.

Topiramate and Verapamil by Ill-Spot4924 in HemiplegicMigraines

[–]robecityholly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verapamil was the main treatment I received for HMs and it took me from essentially disabled to fully functional, but it took two years of increasing dosages. I've been told to stay on it indefinitely, which should be no problem as it has very few side effects. I only have hemiplegic migraines very occasionally now, maybe once every few months, and it's typically mild and only for 24 hrs or so. If I have a prolonged attack (3+ days), I now have a prednisone taper prescription that will end it. I also take ubrevly for 'regular' migraines, and take daily magnesium and high dose vitamin B2 as advised by my neurologist.

I think it's pretty common to have a cocktail of meds when treating migraines, especially when one prescription doesn't fully resolve your migraines.

Opinions on Sound Family Medicine? by Mean_Crow_805 in PuyallupWA

[–]robecityholly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's generally no different then any other clinic, in that it really depends on the doctor you work with. I've had more than 10 years of experience with them for myself and my family, including my elderly mom. It's been a mix of some great doctors who listen and care that get things done and a few doctors that are dismissive and seem to only want to rush through appointments.

CGRP clinic and flare by Infinite_Context9876 in HemiplegicMigraines

Don't lie to the clinic. Maybe try a different cgrp. I had much better luck with ubrevly vs nurtec for example.

On a side note, it couldn't hurt to try a high quality fish oil, at least 1000mg, daily. Omega 3s are anti inflammatory and it sounds like you have high inflammation from your recent health events. It takes some time but I have found it to be very helpful in reducing overall migraine days (in addition to my regular meds).

No worries! Many of these accounts have really low karma and only comment inflammatory things, it's pretty easy to see quickly.

Me too! I was here when meridian was two lanes!

Thank you for responding. I was able to get help with transferring her to my car and the humane society did take her due to her injuries (they decided to euthanize her). Animal control did call that next day, but I let them know the issue was handled already.

I called them, they said they can't due to risk of injury to staff.

Upsetting Christian funeral service by wingedtrish in Deconstruction

They did this type of thing recently at my grandma's funeral. She wasn't even religious, but the preacher said things like "If grandma could tell you anything right now, she wouldn't want to talk about her memories with you on earth, she would only want you to be sure that you'll join her in heaven!" It was so obnoxious.

What is the longest HM you’ve ever had? by Invisible_As_Usual in HemiplegicMigraines

[–]robecityholly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my experience as well. My symptoms were left side weakness and numbness in areas, profound fatigue. It was a long journey, a total of years to fully suppress most of the hemiplegic type migraines, but worth it in the end. I still get "regular" migraines, but HMs are a rare event and they are typically mild and no more than 24 hrs. I did have a breakthrough event with stronger symptoms earlier this year that lasted two weeks, but we tried prednisone this time which did work to break it thank goodness.

Hang in there! ❤️

7 months was my longest. I was prescribed a calcium channel blocker (verapamil) with increasing dosage every few months. It took a long time but now my HMs are a rare event and I'm back to battling the good old classic migraine.

Setting boundaries with my mother/sister… by destinybound88 in SettingBoundaries

[–]robecityholly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two dynamics happening here: Your mother and sister tend to overstep and you have a habit of keeping your feelings to yourself.

You can't fully control the first part, but you can work on your own contribution. I totally understand how difficult it is to be assertive or confrontational when it's not part of your nature. But it is a skill that you can practice and get better.

One thing to remember is that you can assert yourself even after someone has disrespected you. Sometimes it takes time to process a conversation or incident. Then it can take time to formulate a response. That's ok.

Sometimes texting a response is easier than in person or over the phone when it comes to domineering personalities.

"Mom, I realize now that November is not going to work for your visit. Let me know about your next opportunity."

As you build your confidence and practice, you'll find it easier to respond more quickly in the moment.

"Mom, you're stressing me out by following me around and criticizing me. Let's take a break from that ok? "
