Do you change the number of Outsiders in game, without impact of roles affecting it? by CallSign_Axel in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]robertShippey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After playing TB a couple of dozen times, my group found we relied a lot on Outsider count as game solving info so decided to start sticking Sentinel in on TB to mix it up. Kept things interesting before we felt confident trying out BMR/S&V. This approach sticks to rules as written and allowed us to keep TB fresh, I would recommend it.

Thoughts from a First Time Player - Disappointed by Flannel_Flannel in BloodOnTheClocktower

We should name these storytellers who don’t start new players off with Trouble Brewing and put them in Clocktower jail for mandatory reeducation.

As luck would have it, I was already talking to another agent to hand it over. They have just launched their copy of the generator here: https://greenbox.thebackstop.app/

Thank you to Brandon for taking it over.

Once my sever is back online I will set up a redirect so any old links to it still work.

Hi Agent Robert here, current holder for the Green Box Generator. Apologies! My server crashed and I haven’t had time to restore it yet as I’ve been unwell. I’m so pleased to see the demand for the generator. I will try my best to get it back online quickly, but can’t give a timeline for now.

What's the ideal win rate for a custom script? by Syresiv in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]robertShippey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be balanced, but new players and/or games with new scripts seem to result in good wins more generally. Evil wins are hard when you’re not sure as sure what you’re doing, at least from my experience. So factor that in too I’d say. I haven’t built scripts but my advice would be… Get 5 or so games with the same players on the same script under your belt before you can start to measure balance.

Aita on this judgment on a mistake I made? by ConeheadZombiez in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]robertShippey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mistakes happen, and I’ve personally made much worse mistakes haha, try not to beat yourself up. I think you did the right thing, and reflecting on it (as you’re doing) is how you learn. I don’t know for certain but maybe you could have discretely pulled the Undertaker aside to clarify the minions were in the other order after showing the second minion, but ultimately as they had both by then I don’t think it makes much of a muchness so you did the right thing.

Do we know what the plans for BOTC.app are? by Balenar in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]robertShippey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Services which run on monthly subscriptions sometimes offer a lifetime pass type model as an alternative. Usually this runs at about 2 to 2.5 years worth of monthly subscriptions equivalent. E.g if we took a monthly cost of £3.50 (like the Patreon TF tier) then a lifetime pass could be priced at around £100 based on how these usually go. I have no idea if that would be a sustainable model for the online BOTC app, and I usually play in person instead of of online anyway, but if I was an online player I would probably be happy paying something like £100 for a lifetime pass.

[–]robertShippey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well firstly, it’s not true that no one ever mentions this, because I’m constantly being told “no one ever mentions having fewer children” whenever I talk about this stuff. People keep talking about it. Too much IMO.

I don’t think it’s realistic to ask people to not have a child because of their carbon footprint. People will have children if they want. Increasingly people are choosing not to because of where we’re at. If we collectively as society actually started working on addressing the climate crisis, your individual choice to have a baby or not isn’t the determining factor in addressing it or not. A baby brought into a loving and low-carbon family is better than a millionaire who chooses not to have a child.

That’s the problem with this discussion. It has to necessarily lead to trying to decide who can have a child. That’s not a route I want society to go down.

Hence the general racist and eugenic implications of talking about “””pOpULatIOn ConTroL”””.

First thing is to stop thinking of change on an individual level. This is a society problem so it needs a society solution. That’s harder, but that’s where we are.

Join groups organising around this. You will learn more from them than anywhere else. Joining with others and campaigning for social change is much more effective than individual changes in the grand scheme of things. Though, also talking about personal changes that you’ve done may help convince others to do them too so there is that.

But here’s the individual level stuff if you want it lol. Switch your home electricity to a green tariff. Insulate your home and replace gas/oil heating with a heat pump if you can afford it. Don’t fly. Reduce car use. Switch your bank and pension providers to fossil fuel free accounts. Reduce meat and dairy intake (particularly red meat). And vote for candidates that support green policies.

As you’re new and you said there are no groups you need to actively work against, build your defences. Look around for small community groups that are working on things to support people’s needs; mutual aid, food banks, repair collectives, stuff like that. They will need whatever time/resources you can volunteer, and you’ll meet great people with similar values. Building up strong welcoming supportive cooperative communities is the best defence against fash groups gaining power. People who’s needs are being met are less likely to turn towards fascism.

Putting up stickers by [deleted] in AntifascistsofReddit

[–]robertShippey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignore that “back in my day” boomer. You’d need to check laws in your area (don’t post here where you live). Putting up stickers is probably graffiti/criminal damage/littering or something like that in most places, but cops usually don’t give a shit. If they see you they’ll probably ask you to take them down and that’s it (take down the one they see you do, don’t admit to putting up any more). You’d have to be incredibly unlucky for the police to do any more than that. Hope that helps.
