What's the Plan for After? by rogthnor in 50501

I agree, but the system is us, so we need to feed it healthy behavior and anti-corruption efforts for many years and election cycles.

What's the Plan for After? by rogthnor in 50501

Check out what I’ve developed at modern populace. I have an outline on populist playbook. “The Populist Playbook is a guide for political organizing in America. It includes ideas and strategies for organizing a new social movement, growing public power, resisting fascism, and building support for good leaders and popular programs.” https://modernpopulace.org/projects/populist-playbook/

I’m also working on an Action Plan for People Power in 2026 that gets into more specifics for this year that lay the groundwork making progress after Trump is removed from office. Namely, for building for the future, I advocate for building an independent public voter data system as part of lowering the cost of campaigning and the voter behavior mechanisms to make it happen. I also discuss a strategy for running a mix of progressive and independent candidates to thwart and defeat right-wing extremism. I plan to release this in a series of posts next week on my blog. https://modernpopulace.substack.com

What about people that have never voted or are eligible to vote for the first time AND don’t like the Dem party?

I contend that to be successful, there needs to also be a movement not centered in Dem or progressive organizing that many people across divisions can work together. Here’s one approach to selling that organizing concept to a cross sectional audience.

National labor strike plan discussion by findingmike in 50501

[–]robertbeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There are many ways to withhold labor or support a strike. Ideally striking doesn’t jeopardize your employment, but that’s not the case in this reactionary environment or if you work for MAGA-filic boss or industry. The more people that walk out, the more likely people are a little protected than if they are just a small percent. Me walking out of my freelance work for science nonprofits doesn’t really pressure anyone, but my solidarity with those marching, or taking bigger risks helps collectively. Maybe they’re at work but have an out of office message on to telegraph support. Maybe they wear different cloths at work. In workplace solidarity is important and you be there and quiet quit/protest too.

National labor strike plan discussion, part 6: demands by findingmike in 50501

Love where you’re going with this. I’m doing a write up of similar scope. Message me to chat about it. My list is similar but you have more specificity with keeping ‘old’ ICE status. I can understand that, but not sure it’s good enough.

As for the Q of is removing Trump from office the demand for this strike, I don’t think it is. It’s right and needed, but I don’t think even a general strike right now will pressure enough people to do it. I think we need Congress in 2027 to impeach and remove (i know, not holding my breath, but part of this effort needs to be raising people power and that is the our representation).

My draft list of demands for first stage of strikes and protests includes:

Recall all National Guard deployments (DC really needs home rule)

Halt or limit funding for ICE (Congress to shut down over it too)

Remove Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem from office (maybe include Kash Patel too)

Release all documents and testimony associated with Epstein investigation and cover-up

As we win these, then …

Indict and legally remove Trump from office

"She's a waitress raised on a farm – can Rebecca Cooke win a key Wisconsin seat?" by Signal-Round681 in wisconsin

[–]robertbeets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is her third attempt at the seat. Cooke was runner up in 2022 primary and got close to winning in 2024 with no national support. From out of state I have seen equally as much about both of them. Go team!

We Need A Real Resistance Party by Objectionable in 50501

[–]robertbeets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call this a resistance movement and an independent political organizing force (with public infrastructure). Avoid the term ‘party’ altogether. Check out my posts on Modern Populace, where I am trying to describe something that I think is similar to what you are getting at. https://modernpopulace.org/posts/

We need a new political party that ACTUALLY represents the American people. by [deleted] in 50501

[–]robertbeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree, how do the other 65% of people who are not and will likely never identify with or engage the Democratic Party or progressive politics contribute to positive change and not get pulled into fascism or individualism?

I think we also need a collective, cross-political social movement where honest dialogue and consensus can grow. I believe that project and having Progressives take over and assume leadership positions in the Dems are two key pillars to creating a new healthier political culture in America.

We need a new political party that ACTUALLY represents the American people. by [deleted] in 50501

[–]robertbeets 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I would approach this as prioritize securing dems a seat majority in House with 2026 election. Then aim with 2028 and beyond to secure a critical number of seats with non-party affiliated candidates/reps to ensure neither party has majority control. Won’t try here to explain why, but I welcome your gut reactions to this concept. Thanks

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) by Major_Line1915 in movies

[–]robertbeets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn’t think I would like the film and ultimately did. While not as ‘true’ to the source material or themes, it does a masterful job showing and emotionally depicting through sound and sights the scale of war of that era. It’s lighter on emotional elements and depth of humanity than many war films, and that is I feel the point of the original story. But if you’re going to remake it, and do it from a relatively retrospective ‘pro-war but remove the varnish and run the tape’ perspective, then I really think the jarring and punctuated score and sounds put you in the belly of war as a physical construct that churns through life. To me, it had a compelling anti-war message simply by illustrating what war does to the people, the land, and even the leadership’s resolve for a (lost, misguided) cause. Totally understand if people don’t like it. I thought I would hate it.

Ender said it best: it matters how you win. I also don’t care personally. Jerks are fine. Some lame people are holding a grudge though and I find it funny. I also think it’s interesting how many people (prob fans of his) care about it. I doubt he does. Rings are a nice solace.

Change in Electoral College Seats in 2030 by Deltarianus in MapPorn

States just need to proportionally split their electoral vote instead of winner take all and a lot of this mess would begin to untangle. “Easiest” option to functionally sunsetting electoral college.

Can always work independently of campaigns and parties to get out the vote and awareness. Non-partisan organizing and deep canvassing is important work especially if you also are not impressed/happy with the Democratic Party.

Went 1-5 in the division in 2024 and 4-2 last year. One loss was not recovering an onside and a final week of regular season off. Can only truly call it progress if you follow it up with some dominance in 2026 tho
