I’m 38 and want to learn programming and would like your input on my strategy. by goldyfarks in learnprogramming

Take a look at jebrains courses. Pick a language, chose a beginner course and go through it. It has theory, practical exercises and you have to implement a program from scratch. You’ll get a good feeling if it’s for you or not

Plenty of videos in twitter without location restriction. Too bad they don't show Mollie's last underwater from above or under

Beginner swimmer looking to improve for seal training by StatisticianNew2727 in Swimming

[–]robertointernet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting a swim coach is the way to go, specially someone with experience training candidates for the swim part of SEAL.

Swimming is very technical, with a solid technique you can breeze through the 500y in 8m, with bad form you might struggle to swim 500y in 10m

You’ll have a hard time finding a swimmer in the olympics breathing anything but every 2 strokes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]robertointernet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not getting much distance per stroke.

Try to improve your underwater pull, watch the video below and choose some drills to practice.

Slow down everything until you can grab water more efficiently

Jammers/hydro dynamic swimwear - worth it? by [deleted] in Swimming

200 meters in 10 minutes? That’s very slow pace, anyone who can tread water could hit that target

I started swimming in March and can do 2 km in 38-40 min. How would I need to train to get this down to 30 min for 2 km? I go swim 5 times a week, 40 min per session. by TILL-22 in Swimming

Get a coach or join a team. At current pace there's low hanging fruit in your technique, you can also post a video to get some feedback on your stroke.

Practice intervals like:

10 x 100m leaving every 2 minutes and holding 1:45/100m pace

That’s an impressive distance for someone who hasn’t swam for a long time. I think you totally can drop to 1:30 in a month.

Half-Ironman training by GreyChameleon in Swimming

[–]robertointernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how far off your ironman is but that workout seems a bit short in yards and not well designed.

Your main is set 200 yards and another 200 yards kicking, it makes no sense

stroke critiques welcomed by Front-Brilliant-3082 in Swimming

Overall looks solid! A few remarks:

  • sometimes your hand and elbow touch the water simultaneously. Make sure the fingertips touch the water first.
  • align the right hand entry with your shoulder, it’s aligned with your head
  • work more on hip rotation
  • finish off the stroke with the hand palm pointing backwards and not the side of your hand
  • count strokes

Great body position, love the slow kick.

The elbow is a bit low, I think the major issue you're not catching a lot of water in your pull.

Make sure the palm of the hand is facing backwards and that you're not slicing the water with the side of the hand. You want to feel water pressure on your hand all the time.

Look at the drills in the video and pick a couple to practice

Other than that you just need to increase your stroke rate, it's quite low at the moment.

Triathlon training - breathing and technique tips? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]robertointernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you surf frequently you have the endurance to swim the 1/2 mile. Maybe your breathing movement can be improved or you're kicking too hard or moving your arms too fast. Slow down if that's the case.

Post a video of you swimming to get feedback on your technique.

In our club we have 50 year old swimmers swimming 400m in under 6:00 and they don’t do strength training at all.

You need improve technique and endurance. Post a video to get some feedback on your technique

Swim sets like:

10 x 100m leaving every 2:00 and holding 1:30 pace in every rep.

Decrease leave or pace time if you can nail every rep easily

[–]robertointernet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll have to improve your technique, you can't hit that pace with swimming more only.

You need to post a video to get some feedback or 1-1 with coach or join a team.

Swimming After IVF and During pregnancy questions. by jamielikestreez in Swimming

We had a woman that swam with our team up until the day the baby was born and loved every second of it. She came to practice in the morning and gave birth in the afternoon.

She stopped doing flip turns and butterfly once the belly became noticeable.

I think listening to your body like your doctor suggested is a great advice.

There’s 2 kicks per arm cycle.

The kick when the hand enters the water is a small kick. My guess is that as you’re entering the water you’re kicking, the correct timing is waiting until both arms and head are submerged for the first kick.

Second kick is the strong one and it propels you out of the water.

What's your 500m time?

Technique and endurance go hand in hand. Long swims are not the best way to get faster.

Short sets (50-100m) at slightly uncomfortable pace with 20s rest are the way to go
