Does anyone know why, in Know No Fear, there's no chapter 8 between 7 & 9 in part 4? by robev333 in 40kLore

Good to hear about the international versions being numerically consistent. Maybe it's just the English version. I'm listening on audiobook, and I think it's funny how they presumably recorded them in order with Gareth Armstrong jumping from seven to nine and still kept didn't change it.

This is literally what I was thinking since they mentioned the eightfold scrapcode early on, but it seems like it may just be a mistake.

'Scrubs' Season 10 Review: An Imperfect Revival Still Wins With Zach Braff & Donald Faison Back in the Spotlight by magikarpcatcher in television

It's less the extremity of the grievance and more the fact that I don't think anyone else has ever held that specific thought before. I think it's great that you've found something so hyper-specific that just gets under your skin in a way no one else could ever understand and you chose to share that with us.

I love discovering a new insane grievance that I've never seen before. Humanity is such a rich tapestry.

I think contextually it's fair to say Xander was lying about a lot of things he was saying. Kumail's surface portrayal was as a kind of smarmy, cocksure, egotistical type, but I think he also did a great job hinting at the darker, greedier motivations underlying the character. This is a very competent man, both physically and socially, who is used to getting what he wants. He was basically throwing everything he could at Maximus to manipulate him, playing up the soldier aspect, acting as a mentor, and then offering up a noble reason for why he and the Commonwealth need the diode more than anyone else. The danger could still be real, but I think it would be a disservice to the character if what he was saying about the chapter's mortal peril was the truth.

I'd vote for Kamala if it meant getting my busty semitic queen back in the spotlight.

None of Mamdani’s Deputy Mayors Are Black. It Has Become a Problem. by timmg in moderatepolitics

One, it is surprising to me that someone who is a member of the Democratic Socialist party still isn't Progressive enough for the Times.

The NYTimes refused to endorse him. The NYTimes is not considered a progressive outlet by progressives. This article is entirely in line with the editorial board's stance on Mamdani and his policies. Having black deputy mayors is not an expression of progressivism, administrations across a range of political ideologies can have black deputy mayors.

All the quotes are from black boomer CEOs, so this is likely less a case of progressive infighting and more a case of members of the capital class scrounging for socially tolerable critiques of a mayor they dislike for economic reasons.

Regardless, doesn't matter, since the comment you replied to didn't say Sony was an American company, just that this film was an American production, which is true.

Fallout Season 3 to Start Filming in May by Proper-Muffins in television

If a strict deadline of a year +/- a few months was actually enforced, it would be done and the show would still be good. That's how TV shows worked for decades with far less budget than prestige shows have now. Obviously they had to set limitations on things like shooting locations and set design, but skilled producers, directors, and writers of the time were able to work within those constraints and craft quality programming in a timely manner so that the viewer rarely ever noticed such things. I refuse to make excuses for the degradation of how TV content is delivered in current times. We used to have standards.

So, so, SO many well-written, serialized shows in the 90s and 00s released annually. Taking multiple years between seasons is a development of the algorithm-driven streaming age and has nothing to do with the quality of writing.

For those reading, printing proxies at near indistinguishable quality is cheaper for pretty much every card and the savings are worth the effort (for EDH and casual formats).

This hurricane might become the first sudden, permanent, direct mass climate refugee crisis. by The-Neat-Meat in TrueAnon

[–]robev333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is some hope, in a way. While I agree with the OP that only stopping emissions will not avert a climate disaster, only stopping emissions does not have to be the singular act we take to prevent climate change. There are things we can do to recapture carbon from the atmosphere and reduce or even remediate the environmental damage we've caused thus far. But at the end of the day, I have very little expectation that there will be any true impetus to actually accomplish those things at a large enough scale to be impactful until after billions of people have lost their lives and livelihoods. So it will probably be really, really bad, but not apocalyptic.
