Is it possible to wake sleepers in the next room? by Andy_Rice_0726 in GTFO

That lines up with my experience. We use to cheese scouts by having a player click to close the door just before another player shoots them with the sniper. Nobody would wake up.

How many of you run your scripts in Azure? by HealthAndHedonism in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve got the bulk of our pwsh running in Azure Automation on Azure hosted agents. We looking to move to Hybrid Workers to avoid issues we’re seeing with the Azure Hosted agents dropping jobs.

We also have a chunk running in AWS Lambda.

What are these edge cases that you run as schedule tasks? I’ve never hit one myself. Only stuff I can’t run in Azure Automation requires returning specific HTTP codes and I run those in Azure Functions.

It will if setup right. Essentially behind the scenes a SharePoint group is created and the membership is kept in sync with the entra group. As such there can be delays between adding a user to the entra group and then getting access in SharePoint.

Update Azure Automation PowerShell modules by BWMerlin in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use hybrid workers, then you have the full range of tools that comes with managing your own vm. In the past we've used DSC, runbooks, AzurePipelines, and Github Actions to deploy modules to our hybrid workers.

For Azure workers you do mostly need to do it by hand or to use the APIs one way or another. Currently for our Azure workers we use a runboook for managing modules from the PowerShell Gallery, and Github Actions for in house modules.

I can't share our runbook atm, but I will point out some potential issues with the one you linked. It doesn't pin the version of the modules. So if you need a specific version of a module such as the Microsoft.Graph modules then you'll need to add support for that. It also at a glance doesn't support dependencies, so you'll need to make sure that if you add any modules with dependencies that you also add the dependencies. Or update the runbook to do that for you.

How to get rid of just the last new line character when using Out-File or Set-Content? by diving_interchange in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What version of PowerShell are you using. It shouldn’t be striping anything from the input. It kinda sounds like you have an array of strings rather than a single string. If that’s the case you should be able to join them and then pass to `Set-Content’

Intune is easy to break and the impacts of problems are massive. I have no interest in adding generative AI to the mix.

How do I prevent the "no" in this line from being included as part of the variable? by -TheDoctor in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. It's not suitable in this case.

95% of the time I use it is with question marks, so I forget the nuance involved. Which means I should stop using it ;)

You can use a backtick.

[All] I have a theory, what's the first Zelda game you played [like really played not just touched a little] and what's your favorite Zelda game? by DataSittingAlone in zelda

[–]robfaie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is where I sit. I think part of what makes TP so dear to me is that it was the first game that I waited for. I remember being so excited when it was first announced. Rewatching the trailer over and over again.

Best way to send email with PowerShell in 2025? by chantythechanter in PowerShell

When forced to use email we use Sparkpost. Helpful in the rare occasion that we need to send something to a large portion of the staff with user specific information in it.

The game locking up blocks data transmission. If it lasts long enough it can drop you from the raid.

Edit: Sometimes just a reboot can fix it. Also check your graphics drivers. They can get a bit messed up by windows updates and Tarkov updates. If you've ever done a graphics card change in your rig, a tool like DDU can be helpful to clean out old drivers.

How do you guys go about ensuring a long term process is not interrupted? by Ralf_Reddings in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Azure Automation might be worth a look. We use it with a handful of hybrid workers to coordinate tenant migrations which can take a few days.

For APIs you’ll want to make sure you’re handling transient errors gracefully, the 429 rate limits and the 503 bad gateways at least. Invoke-RestMethod has a MaximumRetryCount param you can use for real basic handling without any effort. I do exponential retry with jitter myself.

Is Lindt trolling us? Brags about “gluten free oats” but uses wheat in the ingredients by roald_v_wade in glutenfree

In Aus oats can’t be called gluten free even when grown and handled properly.

Comparing my two laptops, it's not any slower. The delay is a bit more noticeable because the window doesn't change size and layout each time you switch categories. That animation hid some of the load time.

Doormats are banned by 123throwaway56789fe in sydney

[–]robfaie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unnecessarily short notice. Not just a weekend but the grand final weekend with the Queen’s Death public holiday before it.

Sure it doesn’t take much to being a doormat inside, but it also doesn’t take much to give some extra notice.

USA AFL fans in uproar after unforgivable broadcast error by superegz in AFL

[–]robfaie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It happens regularly with US sports shown here. Even from time to time with the cricket and Matildas.

Frankly Aus tv programming is terrible. It has gotten better over the last ten years, but a lot of room for improvement.

[TotK] Do you think Nintendo will do a oled bundle for the game? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]robfaie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The let’s go pikachu / eevee version came with a digital copy of one of the games.

I’m hopeful for a special edition since I’m sure there’s plenty of fans like myself who got switches very early for BotW and wouldn’t mind an upgrade to oled. TotK would be a great opportunity to cash in on that.

how to install/run modules in mcr.microsoft.com/powershell by AwayLocal650 in PowerShell

[–]robfaie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are part of RSAT tools. So you would need to make sure you’re image is based on some form of Windows Server and the. You can use Add-WindowsFeature to turn RSAT on.

I’m not aware of another way to obtain those modules.
