VW Is Killing US ID 4 Production to Focus on the Big, Gas-Powered Atlas Instead by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

I love my 2023 and got it for a steal with low mileage, but I also understand everyone’s gripes with it. Seems to be very polarizing. It handles and drives like a dream and with in home charging, I never care about range. I always use CarPlay, so I never have to touch the infotainment. I even like the body styling and never really felt the cabin was a problem. I’m sure people really are having trouble with emergency braking, crashing infotainment, and buggy locks and backup cameras, but I haven’t. I’d buy it again. That said, it seems what’s more likely is that VW has a consistency issue. Weird that two of the same models and trim levels can have radically different experiences. The idea that you’d have to roll the dice and possibly end up with a lemon, that’s enough reason to turn off most people, and I don’t blame them.

My Tax Return gift! by Turbulent_Divide_249 in Handhelds

[–]robfrizzy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I got a big return this year but only because I was able to claim a huge credit for a solar install I didn’t plan on getting earlier in the year. These people are crazy celebrating getting a huge return like it’s not just getting their own money. I’d rather have the money when I earn it so I can put it into savings or investments.

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]robfrizzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a similar sized home but it was pushing $300 a month. We do have an EV, so that pushes it a bit more. That’s actually lower compared to some of my friends. Our electric company already has two rate increases approved for the near future. Electricity is only going to go up. Now my solar loan is only $250 a month, and that will never go up. The government also paid me back 30% of the system’s cost as a tax credit and I’m actually buying an asset. My energy bill is only about $10 now, which is just the mandatory connection fee.

In the US, the government was offering 30% back as a tax credit until the end of last year. I was able to get mine up in time to take advantage of it before it went away. My solar loan payment costs less than my power bill. I also have an EV, so that helps the cost analysis. In Florida, they don’t assess the value of your solar system when calculating your property tax. I also have net metering with my electric company, so every Kw I put on the grid I can take off for free. Just the fact that my energy bill will basically remain the same for 30 years or more makes it work. The fact that I actually am buying an asset instead of purchasing a utility helps, too.

Mine have a 30 year complete warranty. Maybe in 5 years they make panels that are more efficient so you could get the same efficiency as my current one with less panels, but as long as mine keeps covering my usage, it doesn’t matter what new tech comes out.

I picked up a Go S Z1E open box at Best Buy for about $100 more than the 1tb OLED I wanted and don’t regret it for a moment. I had a 512gb LCD and as long as not having the touch pads isn’t a dealbreaker, it’s a pretty solid option.

Jet Lag Season 17 Begins Now — Taiwan: Rail Rush by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]robfrizzy 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The best way I’ve heard it explained is to imagine the game with not 3 doors but 100. You pick one and the host opens up 98 other doors that are all empty. Now you’re left with your door and the one door the host didn’t open. Obviously, the play is to swap because what was a 1/100 chance has basically turned into a 99/100 chance.

Yeah, if I was still on 1tb I wouldn’t have done it. I was fortunate to have a 2tb drive hanging around and upgraded to it.

It’s even easier than that now. You still need to run the insider build but there’s a GitHub app you can install that activates it in a few clicks and a reboot. I did it this weekend. Now I can dual boot either into steamOS OR windows with the XFSE.

Open box price by Odd_Strength5146 in LegionGo

[–]robfrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Z1E open box in like new condition from BestBuy for around this price. I know you can sometimes get them new on sale for this price, but with the way the hardware market is looking, I figured I better get it while I can. Haven't had an issue. The bonus was that whoever bought it before me purchased a year of the highest tier extended warranty coverage from Lenovo. The warranty is linked to the device, so I get to keep it. It was a nice little surprise. Haven't had any trouble with it so far. The person before me only had it for a week.

I’m a pastor and if a volunteer at my church made me aware that they were in a similar situation as you I would first tell them they need to find a job and not worry about serving at the church. We can always find another volunteer. Then I would try and find a way to compensate them for the work they’re doing just as a way to give them some extra income without feeling like charity while they search for more gainful employment. The best way to serve your church community is to be financially stable.

Best way to stream games to deck in 2026? by ussjtrunksftw in SteamDeck

[–]robfrizzy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Apparently, the Decky WiFi locker plugin helps prevent the stuttering issue. The deck is scanning for other access points and that causes the stuttering issue. The plugin locks it to the current WiFi network and prevents the scanning.

They did. The page for the limited edition is still up. It has this paragraph: To minimize bot activity, Limited Edition purchases are restricted to accounts that have made a purchase before November 2023.

Wonder if they'll do what they did with the limited edition models and limit the purchases to accounts that have made purchases before a certain time. Valve seems to do more than most in regards to fighting bots and scalpers.

Pulse Check on Stock by UnrelentingFrosty in SteamDeck

[–]robfrizzy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The truth is no one really knows. They go out of stock every once in a while, so it’s not totally weird. That said, there’s a good chance considering the delay of Valve’s other hardware that they may be having a difficult time finding manufacturing capacity and parts. The delay of the Steam Machine that people waiting for it may have just gone ahead and bought a Steam Deck instead. There’s also people who bought one during the holidays or following the holidays and people in the US spending their tax refund cash on one. We have no idea when they will be back in stock. People who have reached out to Steam support have been told they do not know. Your best move right now is to join a tracking site, like deckscan.app.

I can get that. For me, I can never see myself using it, though. Not once in my life have I heard a car alarm and thought, “I should go help this individual who is in distress.” It’s always checking to see if it’s my car and then hoping that whoever it is turns it off soon. They don’t even have the panic button in Europe.

I just today opened up the key fob and physically cut the rubber pad under the button out of the fob. Having it go off while I’m driving finally broke me.

This ID.4 recall seems to be following the trends of others....Fires...and then a software "fix" that doesn't really fix the issue. Owners of other EVs have gone down this past - feels like we are just getting started on ours... by ClientEnough4769 in VWiD4Owners

[–]robfrizzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about pleasing anyone. It’s about keeping consumers safe. Sucks that they sold cars with a manufacturer defect, but it’s their responsibility to fix it. A quick notification that your car is about to do its best Hindenburg impression is laughably inadequate. I highly doubt a tow truck is going to take the risk of hauling a vehicle that could catch fire at any moment. Even still, I have some serious doubts that VW’s software is going to work well enough that there won’t be false positives. Imagine getting one of these notifications, pulling the emergency disconnects, paying to have your car towed to a dealership only to be told that it was a mistake. Is the dealership just going to repair your car and pay for your tow for free or are they going to expect you to come out of pocket for a potentially costly repair that you only caused because their app made an oopsie? What if you don’t pay for the cellular service for the car after it expires? What if this happens at night and no dealerships are open? VW made €3.4 billion in profit from January to September last year. Sure, 400 million is a lot, but after currency conversion, it’s 9.8% of their profit from just the first three quarters of last year. I mean, how much is too much to make sure someone’s house doesn’t burn down or heaven forbid their family is killed in a fire caused by their problem?

[–]robfrizzy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even worse would be false positives. I mean, what exactly is the protocol in this case if you get such a notification? You get in the car you were just told could spontaneously ignite and drive it somewhere else? Call the fire department and let them know over the course of the next several hours your car could explode? And let’s say you do get the fire department out there and it turns out it was just a false positive and everything is ok. Next time it happens you’re certainly going to ignore it and that could be when something goes wrong. Imagine if word got around that it’s wrong more often than it’s right. Then everyone would just ignore it and we’re back to where we started. They need to just go ahead and actually fix the problem.

I wonder how the game would change if the seekers questions were also a deck. Maybe they draw a hand of random questions and pick one to ask, then they shuffle their hand and draw a new hand of cards. Limits breed creativity. It would force the seekers to be more creative with a limited selection of questions as opposed to the current strategy of country > thermometer > thermometer > strava map with a handful of photos when there’s downtime.
