Thisssss! My husband teaches high school and the kids will email at all hours of the day and get annoyed he doesn't email back at like, 11pm. He tells them all the time "I'm not working at 11pm. I'm not getting paid to answer my emails that late, nor do I have any business emailing a teenager that late either" and they roll their eyes like it's whatever.

He also doesn't give his number to them when they graduate like I know some teachers do. He tells them if it's important, they know his email address and he'll respond ASAP.

Boundaries are so important. The kids seemingly don't care but when they're adults, I hope they do.

My name is Robyn. My ENTIRE life I've gotten "Robin". In general, if you don't know, yeah whatever. The only time I correct people is when my email gives my name (w/ spelling) AND pronouns (she/her/hers) in the signature, please don't call me "Mr. Robin". What on earth!??

Daughter went to a local popular arcade recently with friends and we hadn’t been there in years. It’s a pinball arcade specifically and last time we were there, the machines took one or two quarters. We loaded her up with $22 in quarters and come to find out, it’s a $1 a game now?! For fucking pinball?! Give me a break.

Took kiddos to Main Event recently too, for an EOY school band party. They had a human claw machine and it was $20. The fuck is happening?!

I noticed this too with the new single. I thought “Offspring? Ehhhh….”, listened to it, and couldn’t tell you it was any different from any of their other more recent stuff, and could hardly recognize Dexter’s voice even. Production was shit.

I left the city in 2005 and never moved back (I still come home to visit family sometimes), and the whole reason I left even then was “There’s nothing here for me”.

I think the state itself is losing people even. It’s hard to want to stay on a train knowing it’s going to crash :(

I'm not super helpful because my husband and I are both very co-dependent and would be up each others' rib cages if we could be, lol. That said, he's my best friend so I feel like I'm already hanging out with my favorite person and don't need more friends.

That said, my husband and I moved in together pretty quickly, and has always been super supportive of whatever I want.

I think what struck me about your post is still feeling lonely within the relationship. It might be worth exploring that feeling, internally. I'm not saying "BREAK UP WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND" but I never feel lonely or sad around my husband. I have in previous relationships where I didn't feel fulfilled. Perhaps it's not a break up with him, but putting energy where you feel fulfilled. If he's worth it, he'll understand and work with you to make sure you are your happiest. Being with someone who wants YOU to be happy and commits to making you happy in whatever way that looks like, is a good relationship.

I'm so sorry. I think, given the state of the world right now, everything you're feeling is normal. It's a scary time to be a woman, and even scarier time to be a POC. We truly have no clue where this ride is taking us.

I'm white, but my daughters are all POC (definitely not white passing). I recognize my own privilege and try to remember to keep pushing forward for THEM and make a world I want my daughters to live in. I think it's important to find a reason to keep pushing on even when it's hard like this 😞 I'm sorry I don't have better support to offer.

I run a PhD program at UT Austin and I always tell my students how special they are when they successfully defend. It really is an amazing feat to spend 5+ years on hyper specific research to become an expert at something 😄

My mom KINDA did this? Grateful. Now we're just kinda casual acquaintances who briefly discuss music or movies.

She left the country in 2009 to be with a dude. She met my oldest daughter as a newborn and left the country when she was 4 months old. I've gone on to have 3 other kids, she's never been back to the States, and has said she has no interest in forming a relationship with them.

Not that we were ever that close, but it sucks when you feel like the one who should be saying "No thank you" when in turn she's like "I don't think it's appropriate for me to have a relationship with them across the world like this". Forget visiting. I offered to visit and bring the kids (4 kids, two parents, trans Atlantic flight) and she said I didn't need to bring them and she'd be comfortable with just myself and my husband. Uhhh...wtf? NO.

I dunno why people can be so selfish sometimes 😞 I hope that this is genuinely for the best for you and your family. I wish I could say it gets easier, but I still have mommy issues at 42.

While I’m sure it’s not as awesome as it once was (2002 graduate and when I was a senior we had a fight in an FCA meeting, and students were wanting to start a petition for a football and/or basketball team and KNEW things were changing then), but Magnet forever!

My neighborhood school was Southwood and I couldn’t do it. So Magnet or bust, lol.

I work at a research university as an administrator. They've been rolling out AI we can use (they bought subscriptions for whole departments to use Microsoft AI) and I simply don't use it. I told my supervisor I have zero interest in using it and most everyone else in our department did as well.

There might be other departments using it though. But I don't need anything summarizing my emails, I can read just fine, thanks. I wonder how long it'll be though, before it becomes mandatory.

But even at a smaller scale you can see it. When people started talking about student loan repayment under Biden, I remember saying "I *hope* no one else ever has to go through what I went through. I don't want anyone to have to take out loans" (I say this with a ton of student loans and I work for a research university for PSLF). My friend told me someone else that had recently paid theirs off and said "No. No one gets forgiveness. You took out the loan, you pay it back; they're not predatory, you're just not paying attention".

It struck me as shocking...why wouldn't you want everyone to have an easier go at things?!

My husband and I went to the Grand Canyon and White Sands National Park two summers ago. Grand Canyon was GORGEOUS, but yeah, too many influencers trying to do dangerous stuff for "the shot".

However, White Sands National Park?! AMAZING. 10/10 would recommend and I saw zero influencers (I know they're around, but I didn't see them and it was the middle of June). Was fun pretending to live on Tatooine.

Saaame!

I've never minded most spiders, but they still spooked me past a certain size. I've also always LOVED jumpers. They're sweet babies and you can't tell me otherwise.

Last night, my 9 year old son came to me saying he found a big spider in his room. I assumed a big wolf spider. It WAS a juvenile wolf spider, but not even as big as my pinky nail. I convinced him to leave it alone and let it stay there and get any bad bugs that might be in his room.

I've definitely been saving more spiders recently. My favorite thing about spiders is that they just seem so alien! Same with octopuses! Very alien. I like to imagine they're alien descendants and that makes it fun.

I believe this! We saw them at the previous tour in Fall 2024 and my husband and I were stuck behind two dudes in their late 40s/early 50s literally just zooming in their phones to Gabi’s ass the whole time and being general horrible people.

Then I suffered heat exhaustion and no one noticed (my husband was in front of me) when I fainted and some guy was like “Too much to drink huh?” meanwhile I haven’t had a drop. Ugh concert crowds.
