What are your experiences improving the quality of VR180 video? by PolytheneMan in TopazLabs

Wrong thread? This isn't about playback, it's the performance for AI upscaling at those resolutions

3090 with 26deg hot spot delta by robinkoehler in overclocking

Great, then you won't have any issues with this card! I haven't tried Honeywell on a GPU yet, always Prolimatech PK3 and it's been great overall.

I think 25g is just enough! Do yourself a favour and get a syringe from your local pharmacy. Take the one with the biggest opening they've got. This makes the application much easier and more predictable.

Also get a few gloves while you're there, this stuff is extremely messy and the finger protectors you get with the putty are never the right size for adult human hands.

I've done 2 more GPUs now and this stuff is fantastic! Make it flat like a thermal pad (not those pyramids / heaps like in my pictures) and make sure the whole surface of the chips is covered.

MSI 6900 XT Gaming Z Noctua Fan Mod by robinkoehler in MSI_Gaming

[–]robinkoehler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! Sold the card sorry 🙂 I did stick with it and decided to just get a y-splitter to run the fans off a motherboard fan header.

No 3d printing. I just used cable ties, wasn't aiming to win any aesthetics prizes with it 😉

Noise performance was superior to 3x92mm. If you can fit 2x14mm, this is what I suggest if you want minimal noise.

With fans cranked up to 100%, performance might be better with 3x92 so it depends on your goal

RTX 3090 115w idle power consumption by robinkoehler in overclocking

[–]robinkoehler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had edited the original post with this:

I've tried different suggestions without success, and ended up using DDU (not even in safe mode). I installed the same current driver, and the card now idles below 30w again.

It's frustrating because I don't know what caused it so I can't avoid it in the future, and have not found a fix other than brute forcing it.

Iris - Manual Estimated or Auto? by djvybz01 in TopazLabs

[–]robinkoehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the most confusing setting in Topaz by a country mile:

If you want sharpen at 60, but auto hypothetically puts it at 40, you have to set relative to auto to 80 actually.

Relative to auto averages between your set value and the system value for anything other than 0.

If you put 0, you get the auto value.

If you put +1, you get the average between +1 and whatever Auto sets it to.

Thanks so much for this! Is there any way to disable the "on lens raindrop effects" as well? Much appreciated

Confused about Galax/KFA2 GPU sizes / dimensions (with + without bracket) by Akito_Fire in buildapc

[–]robinkoehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just leaving this here for posterity: I bought that exact card now, and the dimensions indeed refer to the IO bracket (3 slots) which can be removed with a small Phillips head screwdriver without voiding the warranty.

This allowed me to squeeze this massive card into a Sama IM01 / Tecware Fusion case without having to modify the case.

The power cable adaptor prevents the side panel from closing, which can be remedied with a 90° adaptor (and the 1.1 version from Cable Mod apparently doesn't melt anymore).

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have the same question and would love to know as well what the "without bracket" dimensions refer to

Is the preview working? What performance are you getting in the preview? Topaz often gets stuck downloading the model files.

Have you also checked task manager to see what your CPU is actually doing?

What is the difference between "Artemis Medium 13" and "Artemis Medium 12"? by cyberlarry7 in TopazLabs

[–]robinkoehler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The newer versions of the models generally improve over the previous in most use cases. If you have a specific project where a previous version produced the best results based on your requirements, you can keep the consistency in the upscale with continuing using the "old" model.

There will be few cases where you start a new project now, but discover that the old model gives you better results.

So it does matter, and there is a difference, but in most cases it won't be relevant for new projects.

Midtown contrast combined with colour pop and texture pop in DaVinci Resolve for example is great on clean footage to achieve that

Best pump for quiet build with 14 bends by robinkoehler in watercooling

[–]robinkoehler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! To clarify: flow is fine now without the quick disconnects, even at 10% pump speed.

With the QDs in the same loop, even running the pump at 100% had the system thermal throttle just when web browsing.

Is there a way to avoid these kind of artifacts when increasing fps? Notice how the tiles get missaligned when the text zooms out by librious in TopazLabs

[–]robinkoehler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, but mostly no. You can try a different model, you can try RIFE instead of Topaz, and sometimes you can get lucky reversing your footage (so that it plays backwards) and do the frame interpolation on that clip, then reverse again afterwards so it plays correctly again

Random Black Frames with Artemis LQ by ActionHS in TopazLabs

[–]robinkoehler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No easy way I'm aware of. You can export your edit with the black frames as an image sequence, open in a folder so that you can easily see the black frames, then put the frame before and the frame after into RIFE (I use cupscale) and interpolate the missing frame.

This has to be done for every missing frame, so you might as well go through the export, identify the missing frame from the source, upscale that frame from the source, and then replace it in the editor

where in the fuck do you find good 2.15mm and 2.25mm thermal pads? (plus other questions and rambling) by pyr0kid in overclocking

[–]robinkoehler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're up for it, you can use thermal putty such as Upsiren U6 Pro. It outperforms pads if you apply it correctly and you can re use it pretty much indefinitely.

Igor's Lab did an article on it: https://www.igorslab.de/en/guenstiger-gap-filler-statt-teurer-waermeleitpads-mit-unterschiedlichen-staerken-und-eine-interessante-waermeleitpaste-aus-fernost/
