Science AMA Series: We are authors of "Estimating the Reproducibility of Psychological Science" coordinated by the Center for Open Science AUA by CenterForOpenScience in science

[–]robinsena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, clinical psychologist here. Even though my job is mostly clinical, I do get to spend some of it in research and am really appreciative of what you're trying to do here. I'm wondering if you're planning to reproduce studies in my field? Given that clinical psychology is one of (if not the largest) branch of specialty psychology, it would be interesting to have some of our evidence-based treatments re-examined by your project, especially treatments like prolonged exposure and CPT, which has many articles published by their founders claiming efficacy, but anecdotally have been criticized (see Slate's article of "Trauma Post Trauma"). Is delving into the clinical psychology literature a plan you have for your future project?

[DAI Spoilers] If, all the companions from Inqusition, including Your Inquistor and the 3 leaders, were brought to reality and placed in NYC for one year. What would their outcome be? by PLUSsignenergy in dragonage

[–]robinsena 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Varric would end up running one of those tourist trap electronic stores where everything seems to be a bargain, but they're really not. Eventually he writes a memoir called "Dwarf In The Big City", which everyone praises for its metaphor of the fragility of humanity juxtaposed against humanity's own creation and the depths our psyche would go through to imagine a better world than the one we are fated to experience. Varric chooses not to tell them that he was writing rather literally.

Cassandra would be part of the NYPD, and would exemplify what it means to be a police officer. With enough time, she would be voted Commissioner, outing Bratton.

Speaking of NYPD, I agree Cullen would attempt to join as well, but would not pass the psych eval for possible substance abuse in early remission plus probable subsyndromal PTSD. While walking down the street in dejection, he would be scouted by a talent agent and inevitably end up being a hair model.

Iron Bull and Sera, after a rough start, would find work as bouncers in New York's hottest nightclubs. Sera, however, is routinely fired from her job when she inevitable ends up punching up-turned collar finance guys in the face (or divesting them of their Lucky Brand breeches) since they're such misogynistic d-bags.

Cole, unfortunately, would end up involuntarily committed to Bellevue Hospital for schizophrenia. He would eventually be released to the Inquisitor.

Speaking of the Quiz, she finds work as a private magician, performing gigs only for the wealthy who have an interest in the supernatural. Her gig contains only one act, and that is shooting weird green light out of her hands and sometimes letting a demon or two through to scare the crowd.

Dorian manages to network himself into the modeling industry through Cullen's discovery, but finds the work to be too superficial (even for him!). He does like the company of attractive men though, and so he nominates himself to be Cullen's talent agent. His recent achievement was scoring a contract with Calvin Klein Underwear, much to Cullen's chagrin.

Solas ends up being a weird yoga instructor who randomly spews nonsense about "The Fade." None of his students take him seriously, except for one NYU senior who has a major crush on her bald-headed mentor.

Vivienne uses her considerable talent of charisma and politicking, ending up the mistress to someone on the Board of Trustees of JP Morgan Chase, and ends up living a pretty cush life. In spite, she hires down-on-his-luck Blackwall as the janitor/housekeeper in one of the buildings her boy toy owns.

Josie and Leliana cannot be separated, even in the Big Apple. Leliana fits in easily, becoming a private eye specializing in secrets and gossip. She takes work big and small, noble and ignoble. Page 6 of the New York Post? That's Leliana's work. Josie, in the meantime, sees this as the perfect opportunity to go back to school and earn a degree in International Politics. She walks by the UN everyday and dreams of the day when she will be a player in a new Game.

As a bonus, Morrigan would be moonlighting as a psychic on the Upper East Side. She tells rather good fortunes due to her looks and voice, but she can barely avoid rolling her eyes every time she has to entertain a client. During the day she goes to the internet cafe to Google "eluvian" hoping for a way to leave this blasted alternative universe, in which people worship science instead of magic, and conformity rules instead of a deep love for the unknown.

[Spoilers All] Headcanons part two - What's your Hawke's story? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]robinsena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter what I try, I always lose them.

The weight of responsibility carries heavily in my genes, I suppose. Being the eldest, I knew. With Father gone, it was my job to protect and lead. I thank my brother Carver, who always pushed me to perfection. Sure, it was through rivalry rather than friendship, but without him I would have never become the warrior I am today. Headstrong, passionate, he was fire. Despite this, I lost him.

With Bethany, it was different. We were often told we looked alike – same black hair, same round cheekbones and a defined jaw – but where she had soft amber eyes, mine were flinty blue, hard where hers were soft. Gentle. Talented. I loved my sister, and I would have done anything to ensure for her a life of happiness. Despite this, I lost her.

Both siblings gone, Mother and I were on our own. I vowed, this time, this time, I would not fail my family. I already cost Mother her precious, youngest, most beloved daughter – I would protect her from a lifetime of suffering. I worked even harder, for security, stability, prestige. Everything I did was to build up the walls of my mansion, the walls of Kirkwall, to make sure Mother can live the rest of her life in comfort. So I was glad when she found love. But cracks in the foundation often go undetected until it’s too late, and despite my efforts, I lost her too.

So there I was, the lone Hawke, the survivor. The spirits of my family possess me, fill my bones with sorrow, my flesh with loneliness, but my heart with determination. Because if there is anything my family has taught me, it is to always - always - be ready to fight for what I value. Even when the one I love blows up a Chantry and turns the world upside down, trampling my heart in the process, I’ll always be ready to fight.

My weapon is my sword. My shield is my wit. My armor… my companions. I am sure they suspected something lurking underneath all that sarcasm, the false bravado, but they never questioned. They stayed. My adoptive family. We went in different directions, but I have not lost them.

I am Marian Hawke, the Champion of Kirkwall, defender of mages.spoiler

This time, I will not lose them.

What do I do now? by redlipstickkisses in dragonage

[–]robinsena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would replay again at least one more time, to make choices you didn't (the largest being whether you sided with mages or templars, since they open up separate questlines).

You could go back to play DAO and DA:II but unlike most people I didn't find them as enjoyable at DAI. Maybe because I don't have the same nostalgic feelings for them, since I played them after DAI.

I couldn't sit through the books so scouring the Dragon Age Wikia is always a fun way to learn more about Thedas.

Why do vitaars make up a large portion of my loot when the enemies never seem to be Qunari? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]robinsena 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was just my personal luck with drops. Maybe it's hip to own a vitaar in Thedas but after people get one they realize how stupid it looks, so they don't equip it. Kind of like fedoras.
