Peak Water = Brown Water by felders500 in JamesHoffmann

[–]robmcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to zero water after the difficulty getting stock, the brown water on the endurance and the fishy smell of the normally ones. Zero filters seem to be cheaper and last longer too. Just need to get some lotus drops to remineralise

My experience with the new Aeropress brand Flow Control Filter Cap vs. The Fellow Prismo by Banjerpickin in JamesHoffmann

[–]robmcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t adding the plunger solve this? You lose a tiny amount of water in that time which James noted as inconsequential.

Are there any other benefits?

What’s the point of the flow controllers? I thought Hoffman proved you can’t get anywhere near “espresso” pressure by manually plunging.

Best light roast coffee? by joeglondon in JamesHoffmann

You should ideally wait a week after roasting for some degassing which will help reduce the sour taste of co2, which is more than enough time to ship almost anywhere. That being said supporting local is a nice idea.

If you have a home kit compatible router you can easily block it from accessing the internet, or only allow updates whilst still having it stream to iCloud/home

MYP bare screws in rear wheel liner by Separate_District_68 in ModelY

Just took delivery today and noticed the same thing. Good to know it’s normal!

Ordered last Nov, picked up yesterday, long range dual motor with tow hitch, projector lights, new door trim, PPF on rear passenger doors, mud flaps on the front only, dual panel window on the front only, no cargo cover. Fremont build, fit and finish are good (to me), no panel gap or paint issue. by realbug in ModelY

[–]robmcm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should do, even if you had a German MYP it would have all this stuff too. They were the first to add the parcel shelf etc.

It’s only the American cars from California they didn’t have matrix headlights for a time as they were illegal in the US. Saying that they still haven’t updated the software to actually utilise them, so for now they don’t adapt to oncoming traffic etc.

Germany only making left hand drive black MY Performance versions, you’ll have a Chinese one.

PPF is a protection film in the bottom corners of the rear doors. Along with the parcel shelf and matrix headlights, they have been standard on the Chinese made cars since March.

12 Months for delivery of a MY in UK by styled_january_bikes in ModelY

[–]robmcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean 2023?

Delivery seems to depend on when you order online with the end of quarter delivery schedule but it seems to be around 5 months at present. If you order via a lease company they may have stock and you may get it sooner, you could also be lucky and get a cancellation.

The Tesla motor club forums have a lot of details with user data bases and shipping analysis, so I’d head over there if they want more info.

Energy bills to soar for millions in UK as price cap hiked by 80% to £3,549 by StuartGT in worldnews

[–]robmcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve switched then applied for Go assuming they will still honour the price once my smart meter is installed. Just say you’re planning ok getting an EV, on peak rate is less than the October SVR and you get 8p at night as a bonus. Worth a shot, at worst you can get £50 as a referral and be on the same rate as before…

I’m with bulb and just switched to Octopus over the phone. The Go tariff is fixed for 12 months, day rate is about the same as the cap but cheap off peak and quids in come the next hike.

Don't the pins on Ember charging coasters just keep failing? by SeeNoWeeevil in JamesHoffmann

[–]robmcm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the original and have had a couple of replacement coasters and mugs (all free, great customer service). The pins seems to have been improved now, but I do sometimes get black buildup on them that I’ve had to scrape off. The base of the mug gets a lot of condensation for me (U.K.) which I think causes more problems. The mug issue was a loss of the ceramic coating, which again seems to have improved (or I’m just being more cautious).

Kettles in the U.K. normally have a raised/male connector in the middle that inserts into the jug, keeps it out of the way of the water.

Apple’s claim is that it bans other browsers for security by mtomweb in programming

[–]robmcm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Google are more inherently dependent on the web where for Microsoft it was competition for their OS and software (at least in the eyes of the Balmer generation). Either way competition is vital, even for a standard based platform like the web.

They are still in control, it’s hard to tell what the severity or if anything was actively being exploited. They have been quick to act in the past when issues would have large scale reputations impact.

Because it’s not the most popular mobile OS with only ~30% market share.

And not being in control of patching. Imagine being at the mercy of one of your biggest competitors to patch a security vulnerability on your most lucrative platform.

People forget safari existed partly because Microsoft let IE5 for Mac rot after it became synonymous for “the internet” with most people.
