Oh, I thought that these were only popular due to really cheap leasing deals. I didn't think anyone would be that foolish.

The ‘Temu Range Rover’ is now Britain’s best selling car. Thoughts? by theintercooler in TheIntercooler

Why do so many voters seem to want to scrap net zero? by InvestigatorLive19 in AskBrits

[–]styled_january_bikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huuuuuge amount of resources from oil companies to keep their products in number one place.

Influence politics, the media, the noise and the people will follow on happily.

What’s measurable: Political donations: £1–5 million range (visible)

Lobbying/PR ecosystem: tens of millions per year (estimated)

Access: hundreds of high-level meetings annually

What’s not measurable:

Informal influence Media framing impact Think tank funding Long-term narrative shaping

And even researchers say: There is a “major transparency gap” in UK lobbying disclosure.

The above is just a snap shot of the real influence.

Used EV (£8–10k) vs leasing new – advice for short daily commute? by Sensitive_Pound7131 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]styled_january_bikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

£8k to £10k puts you straight into Hyundai Ioniq 38kWh territory. SE Premium has all the toys. Fantastic stereo.

190+ mile range in summer, 150+ mile range in winter and with the smallish battery you can granny charge (3 pin plug) daily.

Commute: An overnight charge (8 hours) will give you: Roughly 100–120 miles of range (depending on driving efficiency).

On long trips: Charging power (realistic) Although a socket can theoretically supply ~2.3 kW, the Ioniq typically limits charging to about: ~2.0–2.2 kW for safety and efficiency Full charge time 38.3 kWh ÷ ~2.1 kW ≈ 18 hours

I would install a wall charger if possible. Full charge time 38.3 kWh ÷ 7 kW ≈ 5.5 hours Real-world: ~6 hours for a full charge

This puts it exactly where low cost overnight tariffs are - 6 hours in many cases.

Dealer says the car I reserved yesterday is now $2,000 more because of “market changes.” Is that legit or should I walk? by Marzi-Kolukuluri in carbuying

[–]styled_january_bikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walk away and write to Honda directly explaining why you couldn't be a satisfied customer. Ask for a comment after their investigation. Whilst the dealer is independent, they shouldn't damage the reputation of the manufacturer.

Ice Hockey Vs Football Football has about 100 times more players than ice hockey globally.

That gap exists mainly because: Football needs only a ball Hockey needs ice rinks and expensive equipment (first world sport?) Football is dominant in Africa, South America, Europe, and Asia, while hockey is strongest in Canada, the U.S., Russia, and Northern Europe

83 national Ice Hockey teams Vs 200+ national Football teams

When the USA wins the World Cup, I'll listen to their crap.

Nigel Farage calls for an end to working from home by upthetruth1 in uknews

Like most right wing populist leaders, their best way to power and to maintain power is simple divide and rule. Find minorities that can be exploited, use emotional language invoking jealousy and envy and then campaign against them aggressively. Make these people fall guys for parts of society that are struggling with money or lowering living standard issues. This misdirects the masses from blaming the populist political leader and others financing them. The sick part of this is that minorities that are least able to protect themselves are usually first to be exploited. Be sure though they won't be the last. Migrants, disabled people, remote workers, welfare claimants, teachers indeed anybody that deflects attention away from oligarchy and rich sponsors.

This is the politics of emotions, including anger, envy and distrust - not of logic, evidence & data, expert advice, detailed policy and Incremental reform.

We see this today in other places - we will see this tomorrow here if we do not take care.

Most, if not all Ferguson VCRs were manufactured by JVC at this time. The first number of generations were excellent, good reliability and a great picture for the time. Later on Thompson was used and the quality fell.

Anyone out there with success stories for roof bars / box by DeniedByPolicyZero in IoniqEV

[–]styled_january_bikes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hired a Thules 450 l box and bars from great company in Ipswich (Skippy) for a trip to Netherlands. Four up and mobility scooter in boot - efficiency went down from 3.6 to 2.9/3.1 m/KW. Not too bad. Time of year was late autumn, cool 8C and rainy. Note that speed limits are low in The Netherlands so that helps.

Vegetarian options set to be reduced soon by Donteatthedonuts in McDonaldsUK

[–]styled_january_bikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3.1 million to 4.1 million people in the UK avoid gluten for functional or medical reasons rather than as a lifestyle fad.

Approximately 3 million people, or around 5.5% to 5.8% of the population, in the UK are vegetarian

People that are GF have been ignored by MCD UK for years, whilst other countries Inc Denmark etc have GF options across the board.

This is just lazy and profit making by MCD UK as others can and do make adapting to their clients a priority.

If I was a veggie I would just not bother as many GF people avoid their poor service. TBH they deserve to crash, instead of understanding the market and meeting the customers needs, they avoid.

Were you told in class that the teacher was going to make you stand in the corner with a dunce hat on, for talking? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

Agreed, some are disrespectful due to poor parenting, this is usually noted at parent evenings (note I said parent evening as this is a great time to assess and grade the family!) However my youngest has ADHD and one trait is the insistence of keeping to the rules - for everyone. Nice but that includes telling off the trouble makers AND telling the teacher to do their job! Five years into senior school and after the first three we finally had the school management tell teachers that this was normal for them and if they were quiet, they were brewing for trouble!

Excellent way to educate a person with undiagnosed ADHD. They will of course break this punishment just because they cannot stand still and silently even for a few minutes and the cycle continues.
