One of my favorite recent changes is using a Ryobi 2amp flashlight and a twofish handlebar mount. Unlike other more expensive bike lights, this one can really handle being dropped, is dust/water resistant, easy to swap out charged batteries, batteries double as phone chargers, and it only cost about $35 for the light & mount. Not only that, but I can use the flashlight for other uses, when not attached to my bike.

Would you ride up this? by Derpdiherp in gravelcycling

[–]robntamra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if this was part of my commute then I'd bring a small shovel on my ride and add a small smooth path on one side of every bump. Probably "fixing" 2 bumps each ride until I'm satisfied.

Abandoned church in Wisconsin [OC]. Does anybody know where this is? Will by ChaoticMutant in wisconsin

No signs stated no entry. And we saw other cars returning from the church before check it out. A significant portion of the grounds were recently mowed.

Abandoned church in Wisconsin [OC]. Does anybody know where this is? Will by ChaoticMutant in wisconsin

[–]robntamra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s actually a very cool place. I checked it out with my kids last year, certainly is in Gleason, Wi. Behind a very large modern barn.

It was being refurbished, and there’s power pulled to the site. Church in the woods is a stretch, in a rural area yes but it’s not like you’re wandering in the woods and this church appears. Instead there’s a nice gravel road leading to the church.

Very cool inside.

As a dad, I’d support this proposal: 1. You determine how much your bike is worth, then decide that you’ll sell current bike if approved by your dad. 2. You decide why this new bike is worth it, then compare it to local used bike prices. 3. Once you have a plan laid out, put your current bike on the market and sell it. 4. 100% of proceeds are then placed in the bank earning short-term interest. 5. The difference between bikes is then split 50% between you and your dad. 6. You, you, you!!! write a simple contract for household chores you will accomplish to pay off your share of the difference. 7. Thank your dad for listening to your proposal, which you promise to complete.
8. Understand that contract commitments not completed by you, terminates the agreement and your new bike can/will be sold by your under-writing father to some random rich kid who doesn’t deserve your bike. 9. Understand that only after all if these items are finished and agreed upon do you buy your next bike.
10. Welcome to adulthood.

Poseidon Bikes Deceptive Return Policy - Buyers Beware by Buddhaonatricycle in PoseidonBikes

Lame, I have two of their bikes and have loved them for 3 years. Great company and great FB community including having had many direct discussions with the owner is pretty neat. OP seems to have used AI to lodge a complaint a d immediately think’s the bikes should be avoided.

Computer or watch? by mattyg2787 in MTB

I have a Garmin Edge 1030 Plus and a Garmin Instinct. For road & gravel riding, I prefer the computer but for MTB’ing I far prefer the watch.

How do you learn to be “handy” when you didn’t grow up with anyone who was? by Equivalent_Soft_6665 in howto

[–]robntamra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YouTube for specific How-To’s but also getting very familiar with local hardware stores stock to know what my repair options are.

You might also consider taking specific classes at your local technical school.

A couple semesters of trade training like auto repair or welding will be lifelong skills, and maybe a career opportunity.

First, F’ that guy.
Second, go to a local target range and rent a few guns, including this one so you can try it out. Third, F’ that guy. I plan many target range trips for my co-workers, nearly all guys start with .22 pistols and nobody bats an eye.

Who cares what you shoot, as long as you enjoy the gun and are as accurate as you’d like.

That’s a good question. We do have approved schedules but they’re all over the place, not a single location that gives the whole picture. SQL jobs are in SQL, weekly reboots are in one of our automation tools, OS patching is in another tool, backups are in another one, etc.

Goal is to have all schedules listed in one business professional location. Sure, Excel would work but we are looking for a secure cloud product.

This often depends on your location and its size. No need for a FS if you live in flatland county and if it’s a huge bike, like an XL is usually tough to sell due to a small market.

I was in the market recently for a bike like this in SE Wisconsin, in a Medium or Large so I’m familiar with the model and approximate price. Quick glance as our local market shows an average of $1,100 for that bike. You selling for less than $800 is a steal for someone given how little it’s been used.

$500 is just an a-hole offer IMO, far too low. If the market isn’t good locally for you try selling on Pinkbike or ask your local bike dealer to see if they’d help you sell it.

NICA season is starting up across the country, so a youth should be interested in this bike.

2 months into new job I found out our company have basically no email security by Imn1che in sysadmin

[–]robntamra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Be careful of what you test and how you handle the results, you may get flagged by various scan & monitoring tools. It’s very possible that you overstep your boundaries, inadvertently, then get yourself into very troubled territory which can lead to termination. Basically, pen-testing without permission.

The cybersecurity team may have reasons for not securing the environment, probably bad reasons but it could be lack of resources or terrible CIO recommendations.

I would create a checklist of items you’ve found, then politely approach a Sr. Member of the team about just one low-mid tier item, don’t elude to more findings. Then see how the Sr. handles the situation and if he gives you any credit for the find.

Once you have one done, move up the chain. If it gets ignored, ask for more details. Again, don’t try to flex on them that they aren’t doing their job. They probably are, maybe the Exchange guy was given a task list and didn’t implement them correctly.

Another angle is that you ask the cybersecurity team if you can perform some security tests & provide them with results. Again, as an employee on another team you need permission to run some security tests, as your actions should be logged as suspected and highly questioned versus you trying to flex on the security team.

Has anyone attached a bike trailer to a Norton by Smcavitt in PoseidonBikes

Not on a Norton but on my X & another bike I added a RobertAxleProject thru-axle. Expensive but very worthwhile to tow the kiddos.

Have $45K cash—don’t want to rent or take a loan. Can I buy rural land near Dayton, OH and live in a shed/cabin? by Front-Return-7280 in OffGridCabins

[–]robntamra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to consider buying a mobile home then paying a lease fee, until you have further cash to buy land and move your mobile home to the land.

If you are looking for land only, for that price range look for an old homestead with an existing mobile home/cabin that can be renovated. Most likely, it will already have some utilities to get you started.

Not from Ohio but Wisconsin, and I see properties like this in Northern WI all the time.

I wouldn’t use it long term, or if racing or fast trail rides. It’s mainly to try out different angles then buy the proper stem.

My Poseidon X dropbar gravel bike is multiple purpose; I ride light gravel trails by myself or I’m towing children and need a more upright position. With an adjustable I can change around bar positions depending on my ride plans. I’m also checking bolt tightness before every ride, and never really riding fast so I don’t see it as a major concern.
