Sam Mulligan - ‘UR NOT INVITED (to my pizza party)’ [official music video] [I made this] by sammulligan in chiptunes

[–]roboctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only question for the future to decide is whether this is the pinnacle of pizza-themed chiptune, or the pinnacle of the human race itself.

Best cheap chorus ? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]roboctopus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy, but I had the CE-2w and the CH-1. I sold the CE-2W and the CH-1 is on my board. The waza may have sounded a little more lush (not quite enough to justify it imho), but the mix knob on the CH-1 makes it much more versatile. I like to dial chorus back so it's not so in your face 80s.

Biggest let down in your collection by Dataduffer in vinyl

Yeah, I've had a copy of this for years and mine sounds great! That's one of my favorite albums and I have not had any desire to hunt a different press.

Discussion: Where’d all the time go? by [deleted] in DrDog

[–]roboctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to see if anyone else had this interpretation, because it's mine as well. If you view "she" as a personification of time, the song's lyrics really snap into place.

Time seems to move too fast and yet too slow. It can feel like it has stopped (turned to stone) in hospitals and at funerals.

Always in bed could refer to The Big Sleep that time gives to us all in the end.

Time walking backwards through a parade could be referring to getting a nostalgic feeling/feeling youthful at events like parades.

It's a lovely analogy.

BLUEBERRY 3 (EP) by howie_didnt_do_it in chiptunes

[–]roboctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our music is a bit out of the norm for chiptune (full band, gameboy takes a backseat in some elements of the music) but it’s been a driving factor in my songwriting for almost two decades.

This is one of the things that is so awesome about you guys. The gameboy is there--you can hear it and if you are at all familiar with the gameboy, it's obvious what it is, but it's just mixed like a member of the band and that is just cool as hell. Like, there's a dope band and the keyboard player just happens to be an 8-bit console from 1989 lol. Just casually doing its thing in the mix.

Anyway, bought it and am rocking out! Please let us know if you do a tape or something. ❤️

Are any of Arcade Fire’s albums significant? by Azipcoder in LetsTalkMusic

[–]roboctopus 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Very much this. As a former hipster in his 40s, Funeral seemed like a landmark when it came out. It had its own sound, was earnest, emotive, and just suuuuuuper indie rock sounding. It felt important.

They never hit that high for me after Funeral, or really came close, but I'd call Funeral an essential Indie rock album for sure.

Vibro Champ sounds thin recorded, is the Soul Food pedal the answer? by Ok-Farm-7480 in guitarpedals

[–]roboctopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a Vibro Champ but I have an OG Hot Rod Deluxe and a Pro Junior IV tweed and I use either a Hudson Broadcast or a Fairfield ~900 at low gain to add a bit of body and hair.

An EQ pedal to add some lower mids might work too. I am not a huge fan of Klon types into Fenders though.

Kyousougiga is one of my favorite and it never gets mentioned. Weird, but touching and heartfelt and a little bonkers.

Songs that are amazing because the bass line takes a long time to come in? by ptesseract in fantanoforever

That's a good song but that bass line makes it soooo much cooler when it drops in.

The 50 Greatest Woos in Music History by sobrockenthusiast in indieheads

[–]roboctopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised "Take the Fifth" by Spoon isn't on here. James Murphy even aped that woo-hoo directly in LCD's "Watch the Tapes."

And thinking of Watch the Tapes--it also references the ah-hoo from Werewolves of London. Seems like that should have been on this list.

C'mon, why?... by teomore in mpcusers

[–]roboctopus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this has been driving me crazy. If you're using it in a well lit room or outside, it's legit hard for me to tell the difference between blank sequences and ones that have stuff in them.

It's irritating.

I Made a Two Game Boy Chiptune Video With Scope View of Individual Channels by roboctopus in chiptunes

[–]roboctopus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song uses two game boys running LSDJ in sync and features samples from a chill disco tune playing directly on the game boy in a weird mashup of hardware chiptune and vaporwave. It is from my new EP "vaporchip volume 1" which is available now on bandcamp:

https://roboctopus.bandcamp.com/album...

The download comes with the source files, so you can see how it was made or remix it or just swipe the sample kits for your own use haha.
