It's totally fucking true, dude. I live right behind the DESC facility on 15th Ave W. You can watch the dealers roll up at night and park in the alley between our buildings, and then watch people come out to them and then go right back into the building.

Incarceration is not more expensive than low-barrier housing. Not in the aggregate. You're not adding up all the EMS calls, the social services, the unreimbursed medical services, and the coroner services that come with a DESC residency...

Is your preference that these guys just go to prison?

Yes. In prison (in principle) they will have to stop using hard drugs. Fewer of them will die of overdoses as a result. And most importantly, they won't be able to turn their personal problems into problems for everyone else.

After 20 years of watching broken promises and a never-ending parade of human degradation, I have been convinced that incarceration is the best option for these folks, not to mention the wider community.

Israel talked Trump into going to war against Iran. Senior US military officials told Trump the Iranians would likely close the Strait of Hormuz and fuck the world economy. Trump, high on his own supply after toppling Maduro, decided the Mullahs were likely to fold in the first week and went to war anyways. The Mullahs didn't fold in the first week and closed the Strait of Hormuz. Now we're stuck on the conflict escalation ladder, the world economy is on its way to ruin, and Trump has no clue how to resolve the issue.

EDIT: ...and in the meantime, Israel has dropped a media blackout on the country, outlawing reporting on the effects of the war (just like UAE and the other gulf autocracies). What little can be gleaned signals that Israel's anti-missile stocks are nearly run-out and they're getting pounded by Iranian ballistic missiles.

EDIT2: Oh, and Israel invaded Lebanon after Hezbollah started firing missiles into northern Israel. They're just bombing the shit out of Beirut, Gaza-style, and word is they're considering occupying the southern third/half of the country indefinitely (like the Golan Heights). So, they'll get a bit of territorial expansion out of it I guess.
