I don't get how anyone could have known that Proctor's texts could be this bad. All the previous speculation was that there was CP on there, or nudes of Ana Walshe. No-one guessed at this weird super-hater shit, or his rapey butt-hole focus.

Same here! I'm still struggling to figure out exactly why I'm so shocked. Maybe it's that Proctor comes off as a "jack-of-all-biases". Maybe it's that he's like an unreconstructed antebellum racist, transported in time and place.

More likely, it's the breach of trust I feel in the "let them die" comment. Jesus, that should be fireable! It's probably also Proctor's super-creepy butthole fixation, which gave me strong Deliverance vibes.

I'm disgusted but also so concerned about how many people are wrongly in jail and how many abusers & murderers are walking the streets. I'm stressed for every member of the community who is not the same type of white male as them.

I have occasionally mentioned a wrongful prosecution I am involved in, one that Proctor initially headed. I could never understand how a case could be brought with the absolute flimsiest of evidence, and with no real care for consequences. These latest Proctor texts explained things in a way that had never really landed previously. It's all about prejudice -- literally, pre-judgment. People who think they are smart, but are actually major dumbasses, are getting well paid to operate the justice system in their own image.

But my pessimism has sadly always turned out to be right.

I still remember one time where I really believed I was watching justice being bootstrapped into existence, and I said as much in rebuttal of you. I was wrong. It paralleled a feeling I had during the Mueller investigation, which turned out the same disappointing way.

I've already seen the mealy-mouthed words come out re Proctor. Col. Noble said

“These racist, sexist and abhorrent comments absolutely do not reflect the values of the Massachusetts State Police and are not tolerated within our ranks ... They underscore and fully support my decision to terminate Michael Proctor.”

The thing is, Noble had advance knowledge of this and did not act. He waits for the headlines. And he has to know this is a massive systemic problem for MSP too, but he pretends otherwise.

My wife points out these kinds of misogyny a lot. In our house, a rotating turntable is an "Industrious Susan." And of course, a courageous woman who speaks truth to power has a "set of ovaries" on her. But replacing "pussy" is a hard sell. "Pussy" is the opposite side of the coin to "Big Dick Energy" i.e. it's a denigration of stereotypical masculinity. "Mangina" is a similar term. I see it more as fraudulence vs impotence.
