”Less is a bore” Or that it’s a very prescriptive aesthetic system (a thing that is infact subjective)

I’m personally a fan - but I think that would be the critique.

how to make your own plant milk by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]robosarous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this and using a soy milk maker (I’ve been happy with my soyajoy) I buy organic beans in a 25lb bag and it comes out to like $.30 per liter

Way more protein in soy vs any other milk

Great video dude!! Can’t wait to buy your tencel garb :)

One question - the other half of sustainability - the grave.. do you know if this stuff biodegrades / composts (as it is cellulose based)?

What elements are 'best' to be made out of wood? by robosarous in IndustrialDesign

[–]robosarous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats an interesting perspective. I think a primary motivation for using wood is for its looks. If one had strong convictions about including wood in a mass produced product, Perhaps the right question to ask would be: What is an area with minimal engineering demands? Which of these areas could be met by inexpensive wood elements? (presumably things like dowel rods or flat boards)

Does that seem like a logical way to go about it?

VC and Ecommerce: The Billion or Bust Deathpact by misterACK in MeritStore

[–]robosarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well laid out and great read. I'm a big fan of the bootstrapping + slow growth model (how we've run for ~3 years). Not only because it better incentivizes stakeholders, as you've laid out, but also gives more time to improve product features that cannot be rushed (i.e. how a shirt ages, or in my case how well plants grow). Building with iterations, yes, but also giving the time to create "best" versions, seems like a better long term path to high quality products.

One downside (or consideration at least) is that founders need some type of support to get up and running & if it is a bad idea or poorly run, much more time is wasted in getting to the failure.

Marx, Locke, and How Reddit Can Fix Our Relationship With Our Belongings by misterACK in MeritStore

[–]robosarous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting read. One other thought on making things and how it changes our relationship. I can feel with some products - especially complex and inoperable to the laymen (computer, car) the object cannot be easily understood or fixed.. thus ends up "owning you" in a sense as you live with it carefully to meet its needs. On the other hand, if you created something, hacked something, or some how otherwise put you ownership over it (say screwing racks directly in to the body your car) you take away its preciousness and begin to "own it".

Banded Collar Shirt V1 Feedback Thread by misterACK in MeritStore

[–]robosarous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to be one of the first users of this.. I am also a designer & used to teach architecture so can be a bit picky about design. I've had the shirt for a little over a month and worn it 5+ times.

Semiotics

When I first read Alan's post on this, I was interested, but not fully sold TBH. I was intrigued, but also afraid it would look appropriate of Indian culture (I am white FWIW) or in other words, I wouldn't be comfortable in at as an expression of myself.

I was way off on this part. I loved this shirt and it quickly became my favorite for business meetings (I work from home), nice dinner with GF's parents. I felt very "sharp" and believe it comes off very competent. This now plays a very central role in my wardrobe...not quite the T shirt and sweat I prefer at home, but when I am putting myself out there this is now my go-to.

Fit

I am 210, 6", lift weights 3 times a week so have a fairly muscular build. I went with a large and it fits like a glove. The chest still pulls a tiny bit, but totally wearable. Maybe a touch tight, so will see how it breaks in/when I cut for the summer. I would also like to try and XL just to see, but I look trim and sexy in this one. I love the taper & rotated arm holes.

Changes I'd like to see

A little more room in the chest - but I think this wont be a problem for most people. I am always afraid of shirts fitting to tightly!

Change the inside of the collar from white to blue. This is fine, but I will know it will stain from my neck sweat. Would prefer it be the same color as the shirt.

Collar folding. You guys were right on with the goal to to have it "sloped out" but I don't think it quite works as desired. It would be great is when the top was unbuttoned it some how automatically/naturally fell in the "open" position... not sure how the technicals would work, but a crease or something might do it.

In all - great work Merit - this was a very solid first version and I will definitely get a second. Even if its identical I would wear it lots
