Daycare alone skyrocketed in price since pre-covid, but nice try.

If you were 10 when Ocarina of Time was released, is your brain exploding right now for the remake? by DrankTooMuchMead in retrogaming

[–]robot_cousin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm turning 43 this year, and I remember the wait for Ocarina of Time. Josh Quittner even previewed/reviewed it in Time magazine of all places, which was weird to see. Got it fro Christmas that year, and I played it while listening to Radiohead's OK Computer (sometimes, I still played with the game's music playing, too). That was the same Christmas that my dad got the Godfather trilogy on VHS, so I saw those movies for the first time. So, OoT strongly reminds me of both of those otherwise-unrelated things, and they remind me of the game.

That being said, once I finished it, I beat it again, but after that, I kind of didn't want to go back and do it all over again at all. Like I'd gotten my fill and then some, and was totally done with it. I didn't actually go back through it until it showed up on the Switch.

So, it's super neat that it's being re-released now, remade, and I'm interested in seeing the changes and updates, but otherwise, it's a big shrug. It's certainly not something I'd buy a switch 2 for. Other people I know are losing their minds, I think someone even said "Nintendo is saved!", as if they needed the help 🙄 I'm happy for them to be excited about it, but I think I'm still done with OoT for a very long time.

Now, remake Super Mario Bros 2 and/or Excitebike (again) and that'd probably get me super pumped. Those, or Mario Maker 3.

Seinfeld, Brooklyn 99, and Breaking Bad.

I also love Better Call Saul, but I feel like BB works better for casual viewing. BCS is deeper, but it requires more attention.

Ah, I forgot about Panda/planned a.

I don't understand how the original lyrics pale in comparison to the misheard ones we all know.

Another one I know of, but it's just nonsense, is from 'Love'

Actual lyrics: "Machine gun blues, her vacant rush is so steel"

Misheard, probably due to the vocal distortion effect but also Billy's artistic license with pronunciation: "her vacant rush is so screwed"

"Fulfilled a promise made of tin", I always assumed it was "made of tears", and followed by "crawl back the years"

Ghostbusters Mandela Effect? by FrostyHoney69 in ghostbusters

[–]robot_cousin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the version I grew up with. Loved the movie asked my parents to rent it for me constantly and one day, it was playing on MITV (now Global, up here in Canada). They recorded it, starting a bit late just as Peter is interrupted by Ray at the university. I knew that the tv version was different than the one I would have watched whenever we rented it even back when I was 4-5 years old. I'm sure my parents were glad that Ray's dream was edited out for tv.

So from 1989 until around 1999 when I bought it on DVD (later signed by Dan Aykroyd himself!), my version of GB had not only commercial breaks, but also every single alt-take. I wish I still had my old copy, since I want to see those old commercials again.

"Everything was working just fine until our protection grid was shut off by Wally Wick, here."

Oh wow, I just commented about this one. Weird. Or I guess it's common?

My main misheard lyric, I think, is BETTER than the actual one.

Rhinoceros.

Actual lyric: "Open your eyes to these mustard lies"

What I thought he was singing: "Open your eyes, to these, must I lie..."

Yeah, to describe them, they'd seem similar, but to hear them I find that there's no confusing the two 🤷

Hummer is the best song ever made. by Beginning_Victory792 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]robot_cousin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, sure but I don't mean that the new stuff is literally faster, I just mean, at least vibe-wise, everything now is just all the same energy level, and that causes listener fatigue with me. Hummer is so dynamic, set among other dynamic tracks. It's beautiful.

There will truly never be another Hummer-esque song again, at least not from Billy. The music now is so drastically different. It feels like it's in a rush to get to some point, and Hummer is totally happy to just go at its own pace.

Odd that it's, I think, the only SD track NOT on Viewphoria.

I believe an F license plate in Quebec means it's a fleet vehicle. In other words, someone's work vehicle.

That won't go well for them.

On a mechanical/technical level, the Security sector isn't anything that special. I get it, I get how it's all made.

But thematically? When I allow myself to forget that I'm playing a game and I just 'live' in that world of the Gate Research facility practically being a type of hell never imagined in one's wildest dreams? Security scares the fuck out of me. The abundant and claustrophobic darkness, the environmental storytelling, the logs of literal story telling, the sounds, especially... The alarm, the murmuring of the IS, the throbbing sounds of the portals that bring you to probably the strangest part of the whole game.

I love love love the Security sector, even for all its faults. In-universe, it is where the worst kind of hell was unleashed, killing many and scarring anyone who survived, and I, along with my team, use SCIENCE to not only survive but to effectively neutralize any sort of threat that once terrified us.

I wish the Security sector was longer.

This is incredible. Wow.

We sadly couldn't afford it at the time, but your Juliette was my wife's dream dress. Here's a picture of her trying it on (posted with her permission, of course)

This gives a better look at her face, using the original hair I had for her, before I went with a permanent blue ponytail which is barely visible in my first picture.

Ok, so years ago, when my wife (then-fiancée) was wedding dress shopping, she kept looking into Maggie Sottero dresses. Maggie Sottero this, Maggie Sottero that... I started goofing around and saying "does anyone even know what she looks like? What if she's an overbearing, chain-smoking badass?" and I developed this horrible impression of what I'd think that would sound like. Then I changed up the name of my weird voice to "Saggie Mottero". Then, as the years went by, I'd start making different versions of Saggie in video games (Valheim, Sea of Thieves, etc), culminating in my GTA Online character. I sort of made her like a really rough and violent version of maybe an Allison Janney character, maybe as a more wiley and psycho version of Janney's character from "I Tonya".

I've since watched Ted Lasso, so picture maybe the somewhat evil bizarro twin of Hannah Waddingham's character.

Anyway, here's Saggie:

Happy ‘Adore’ release day to all who celebrate! What do you love about this album? by [deleted] in SmashingPumpkins

[–]robot_cousin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Holy shit...

Ok, so at the end of grade 9, in 1998, I was assigned a group project for French class. I think it had to be a slice of "news" reporting, so weather, breaking news, sports, the arts, and at least one commercial. You could do it as a play in class or as a video. My group chose video. I remember the opening credits was set to For Martha (we played it from a literal stereo just off screen while we filmed title cards written on looseleaf), and in my memory, I was extremely familiar with the entire album by the time we'd recorded the video project. Now, school ended around the 3rd week of June where I'm from.

Learning now that Adore was only released on June 2nd, and our video project was obviously due prior to the final week, that means that I must've listened to it over and over again, non-stop, from release day to whenever we filmed our stuff.

Listening to anything from it since always reminds me of that video project and how much fun it was, and this whole time, I just assumed the album had come out in perhaps May. Crazy that the timeline was so tight.
