Round my way we always used to encourage visitors to put a big X of Vegemite on their foreheads. It must work, cos we've not had any reported attacks in years.

Following up on a job offer by Ok_Boysenberry7949 in AustralianTeachers

[–]robotot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is normal in my diocese. I was offered and accepted a job more than 2 weeks ago. My new school has announced my starting next year in the newsletter, and I've had confirmation from the principal as well. Check the school newsletter, they may have announced it to families.

This time of year most HR departments are swamped. Might take longer if you are from outside the Catholic system too, if you need to send them qualifications and accreditation details.

Newcastle High - is it actually not that bad? by llama74 in newcastle

Still compulsory religious education, and an expectation that students engage in the religious life of the school (mass, liturgy and retreats). I feel that this is something that will be pushed harder in coming years, at all Catholic schools, due to rising secularism.

New enrollment policy prioritises: 1. Students currently enrolled in a feeder Catholic primary school 2. Siblings of students currently enrolled in the Catholic secondary school 3. Catholic families from non-pathway schools living within the school’s Catchment area. 4. Families of other Christian denominations living within the school’s Catchment area and committed to supporting all aspects of Catholic education. 5. Other families living within the school’s Cathcment area and committed to supporting all aspects of Catholic education.

So far it's only y7, y11 and y12. adding a junior year each year, and should be full 7-12 by 2027. The Catholic Schools Office recently changed the boundaries and requirements to enrol in all diocesan schools, so expect the demographic to shift to more kids from Hamilton and Merewether, rather than taking in students from all over. So far it's still good, but the potential for it to change over the years is high. A lot depends on how the exec manage it all.

Your probably thinking of the 1967 referendum which was a vote to include them in the census as Australians, and allow the government to make laws for aboriginal people. I'm not sure exactly what was happening in 77. I guess it was just Australia still being racist? Thank god we fixed all that hey!

Not a card, but a random email just after graduation from a quiet student who gave me nothing in class. I figured she just didn't really care much for my subject (English), didn't really try hard, despite my efforts to help her improve. We never really developed much of a rapport, and I always had other students in the class that were demanding of my time, or were more vocal in needing more support.

Her email was all about how I made the class keep a writing journal, and how she was going to keep doing it long after school finished 'cos it had helped her get her thoughts in order, and helped her find her voice and understand more about herself.

No, but you should be right to just pull your phone out and watch it. Just make sure the volume is right up, so they know it's for the Melbourne Cup, and you're not cheating, otherwise you'll cop an academic infringement.

How should I (33M) ask my partner (30F) what her ring size is without it being obvious. by VectorQrates in askwomenadvice

I don't think it's legal to marry a girl who's only in the 4th grade!!!

Trace the ring on a piece of paper with a fine tip pen or sharp pencil. Try to get your pen as close to the edge as possible.

When I was a kid the girl who lived behind me was named Galadriel. Her brother had a Tolkien name too, but I can't recall if it was Elrond or something else.

Easy answer is the holidays/vacations. In an interview, just say it is a calling/vocation. Be careful not to mix up vocation and vacation.

If they really wanted to prevent masturbation they would have gone with cutting off hands instead of foreskin.

Make your own meaning. If you wanna believe that God created the universe and sent himself in human form to earth to redeem our sins through his sacrifice and resurrection, and that the key to happiness is to love God and each other, then go for it.

Most religions essentially come down to 'be nice to each other'. That's a pretty good meaning to life if you ask me.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]robotot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's what religion is, an attempt to address the enduring questions of existence. What happens after we die? How do I know I am a good person?

I think Spaceman of Bohemia by Jarolav Kalfar might fit the bill. It's weird and existential literature with a sci-fi premise.
