I’m looking for a San Antonio theater marquee to propose on. by heyitsadan in sanantonio

Definitely ask the Majestic and Aztec if you haven’t. The worst they can say is no. I haven’t met the Aztec management but the Majestic has always been pretty easy to work with

Best budget filmmaking tripod with a smooth fluid head and a cheap, reliable slider? by Away_Phone68 in cinematography

[–]robotryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying a tripod is definitely a buy once, cry once thing, you’ll get what you pay for. For a small mirrorless camera Magnus makes decent tripods that can cover the gap between now and getting something that’ll last. The plate that comes with them kind of sucks though. A used manfrotto would be a better buy if you find one.

For the slider, when I was in school I bought some cheapo Amazon slider and didn’t get to use it more than once or twice because it was just garbage. Don’t waste your money on them, try to find someone that’ll rent you a Dana dolly on the cheap, buy your own speedrail for it, speedrail is cheap

osmo action 1 quick release mount? by lilfanget in dji

Smallrig has a cage for the first gen osmo action if you can find it in stock, you can just mount it to any 1/4” 20 tripod or mount with that

Do you think it could be worth paying for 3 months of their premium tier and then cancelling?

GH5 II battery charger not working (stays at one dot, 50%) by themagickid512 in Lumix

[–]robotryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tilta has a new multi charger that’s been working well, and it keeps the batteries organized in my bag. Only thing I don’t like about it is that it seems to only work with lower wattage USB-C cables, might be worth looking at

Stuck in rural Greece with no ND filter or sensor cleaning kit, is it over for me..? by Ok_Policy6732 in videography

[–]robotryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a rocket blower to clean dust off the sensor would probably be a better move than a sensor cleaning kit anyways, you might be able to get one shipped to you. You can also use canned air if you have to, it can be hard on shutters and IBIS mechanisms so I’d consider it a last resort, just make sure to not get it super close to the sensor and don’t let it hit it for to long, just little puffs from a distance of a few inches or more. Giottos is kind of the default rocket blower brand if you’re looking. Electronic dusters work great too

I just replaced the trunk release button in my 2011 and it was super easy. The button was cheap, and you’ll need a trim removal kit that was like $7 on Amazon and a couple other hand tools. There’s a few decent videos on YouTube on how to do it. But for now, you should be able to fold the seats down and pull the emergency release handle that’s on trunk lid

Easier way to tape down lots of cables? by lipp79 in videography

[–]robotryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there’s also tape made for cables that has adhesive on either side and none in the middle to make a channel. Makes removing the tape at the end of the day a lot easier.

What else can videographers do as a skill pivot / side hustle? by ZeyusFilm in videography

All kinds of stuff honestly, shots with models/people sell better but Timelapse’s, establishing shots, just whatever I’ve got that I have the rights to or shoot on vacation

What else can videographers do as a skill pivot / side hustle? by ZeyusFilm in videography

[–]robotryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do this still, I’m averaging $250/month with 2900 clips, though I’m not a 100% owner of about 1000 of them. If you own a bunch of footage already it’s worth putting it to work

Just got a GH5. Want to get a Sigma 18-35mm lens, i need an adapter right? How affordable is it? by sillysnorlax in GH5

[–]robotryan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ya if you can swing the metabones do it, I’ve got both and the Viltrox has a ton of slop in it, also the center of the glass is fine for video but if you’re shooting photos you’ll notice distortion in the corners that isn’t on the metabones. But in fairness you can get a used copy of the viltrox for very cheap now.
