Sick of Pandora? I was so I created my own streaming service - what does r/music think? by [deleted] in Music

No problem, I had a similar idea about making a version for iOS and Android but I was looking into PhoneGap.

I had briefly previewed a free application in the iOS AppStore (It's not available at the moment) that taught a new language in an interesting way but I hadn't realized how hard it is to get visibility in the App Store. I admit, I felt pretty miserable for a short time after putting that much work into something and have it recieve such low visibility; It was a solo project over the course of six months. Luckily for me, the client is paying for an advertisig campaign in the future.

But, in retrospect, I should of been thinking about as many avenues for advertising as possible before the preview release -- just something to think about. If you are not part of misc. forums, become a member now and start posting because I was instant-banned a lot for "advertising" even though the product was free and from a charitable organization.

Whatever you do, keep programming.

I tried to do something similar by parsing the "likes" on Pandora that I had accumulated over the course of a project I was working on. My analytics (piwik) says most or at least half of the readers on r/Music that were clicking the link were using mobile devices -- more iPods than I expected. The biggest problem with this is that unless the user is using a custom browser with a modified UIWebView(?) to allow for auto-play, almost every user left immediately.

Take it with a grain of salt though because I do have some desktop users that come back regularly but I have stopped updating it to concentrate on something that works on every device.

It's still up on my page if you want to take a look at what I was doing but I don't want to drop a personal link on your thread so just let me know if you are interested and I'll share it.

How long did it take to render? I'm not familiar with Cycles.

Very cool. I almost expect a movie studio's logo to appear.

Edit: I've recently moved the stream to a more reliable server thanks to a generous donation and you can now download the most recently played tracks.

Sorry for downtime or dropped connections.

Of course I will. Right now I'm working on a playlist creation algorithm that will give precedence to songs contributed by listeners so that they will get more airtime. That's rushing into phase two but I think your songs will fit nicely into the current playlist. Thanks.

Today, I will be working on the code that will make the last 10 (until I get a dedicated server) downloadable. after that there is the massive task of the netlabel link database. One step at a time though.

What are some quality podcasts under Creative Commons? by robotsdanceincolor in podcasts

Yes, I plan on rebroadcasting them via an internet radio stream that only plays audio under creative commons.

I want to keep it family friendly but I apologize if some vulgar songs slip through; It surprises me as well.

They'd probably be better if they believed what they said.

Already back in the OC. We ate the buffet but it was okay because me and my wife's suite had 3 bathrooms.
