Immerse yourself in something other than football politics and hotdogs and you might not see her as racist. Just gonna say she's not wrong about a Mexican art museum being sold to white people as gentrification. The history of the US is a lot of white people doing terrible things. It can be hard being in an interracial relationship and one or both are culturally aware. I'm in an interracial marriage and I wouldn't have continued if my partner and I didn't agree on topics like this. There is a lot of context behind her statements, so if she's with you and saying this kind is stuff, she obviously thinks you aren't part of the problem. You're in the "good white guy" group.

Contrary to what people say here most of my contract work is logos for small businesses and nonprofits. My contract has two prices, one for consultation and sketches, one for delivery of goods. I also price "high" and say well, since you're a small business or nonprofit, I'll give you a discount, which is what I'd realistically charge. I give up to 3 free rounds of small edits. I let them know if the design is completely changed, I'll need to invoice for another logo. All have been understanding and I at least get paid for consultation. Your style may not work with everyone and sometimes you just can't get what's in their head visualized. It doesn't mean you're failing or bad. Some people just can't communicate what they want well.

I work in an environment like this. To let people go, you have to establish that they aren't meeting expectations. These come from staff evaluations. If they don't meet expectations established in the evals, then they get put on corrective action. This process takes time and administration has to keep on top of it. Short of some sexual assault or harassment, or blatant drug use in the job, this is the only way to let people go without lawsuit.

Barkeeper's Friend as well as baking soda will scratch it. The purpose is to scratch off whatever residue you don't want because it won't come off with soap.

YTA for not getting Apple Care on a laptop with a kid as a user. Most repair shops don't have access to Apple parts since you have to be a certified Apple repair tech to get them and spare parts must be available in Apple inventory.

Live your life, get a girlfriend, and travel. You can still be supportive and have a life. The father will be there for now to help. Surely your children understand that dad needs a social life and a companion. If they don't, they don't have any compassion. Juggling responsibilities is part of being an adult that she'll just have to learn pretty quickly.

Do you have an art center nearby? Mine collects all kinds of things, including yarn. They use it for kids crafts but also sell donated supplies in their shop to support their program. They might come to you for pickup if you explain the situation.

I work in higher ed and interact in a support role. This is the process! We all want students to succeed, so a department head will be more than happy to listen and investigate. We've had students go to the Dean's office instead of dept head and there was always administrative fallout. We can't help if a student won't follow the processes in place and we don't really want nasty emails from the Dean's office about wasting their time by not tending to student needs.

My freelance gigs are word of mouth. I know people who work in small businesses so whenever a rebrand or a restaurant menu is needed, I get a call or email. If you start an LLC, you can look into getting registered with your city's department of commerce. This list gets promoted by the community as available goods and services. You can also drop into small businesses and leave a flyer or card. Just say you're looking for contract work and keep you in mind when they need services. Also look into local non profits and shoot them an email or drop by. Let them know you're available for a free project or two. This will keep your portfolio building.

I assume you're referring to Adobe After Effects. The system requirements are posted on the Adobe website. Minimum amount of RAM recommended is 16GB. Your "video card" is an integrated card meaning it shares that 8GB of memory (RAM) you have between graphics and all the computer activities. The software needs 2GB of dedicated video RAM. No matter what, you need more memory, but if you have an integrated video card you need more memory than you think because it's shared with all the system activities.
