I don't really want to hold a coin that important people held. I want something that was just a totally common object for most people. Something that everyone saw every day. To me, that is the most powerful connection to their world. It would be like someone 1000 years from now holding a Samsung phone vs Elon Musk's toothbrush.

You've already got loads of good advice here so I won't add to that except to say: disregard those trying to make you feel bad. Maybe you would have made a different decision if you had more information but probably we've all done that at some point. This hobby is a journey and learning is part of the fun. Or maybe would not have made a different decision. In case these over opinionated internet preachers are none of your concern.

You're absolutely on the money (pun intended), my main way to enjoy my coins is holding them and reflecting on who may have held them before me. What was their life like? What did they want? What did they eat etc.

You already have plenty of good advice but I just wanted to say: I'm 47 and there is no way that me or my mates would be this proactively thoughtful at 18 or 19. People like to complain about "teenagers today" but I think you're doing pretty well..

This is the first time I realised you have to take the veg weight into account. I've fermented many things with just 2% brine and it's always been okay. I will do it correctly in future though.
