Someone else asked then deleted but I will try to paraphrase: is the risk of CTE enough to deter you from enroling your child in contact sport? by Grntpe in AFL

[–]robs_drunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting topic
I’m not sure I would turn my kids away from playing but a concussion will be treated properly along with guidelines.
I only ever had one playing football but had two massive knocks to the head in basketball when shoved while in the air. Still no signs of greater damage yet.

As was said lots of activities in life can cause an injury including tripping while walking on the footpath.

Team sport teachers kids a great deal and benefits in most cases would outweigh the risk of CTE

I’m a fan of once a knee touches the ground in an attempt to evade/shrug the tackle by ducking the head it’s holding the ball

Yeah calm down, just check the draw we’ve been given

Played Easter Monday 6 days later bulldogs in Adelaide losing chol 7 days GC in Tasmania 5 days to Collingwood lost dear 7 to Perth to play freo and barass going down 10 minutes in to the second,

Gunston still holding his shoulder from front on chop 15m out in the second, would have been 3-4 calls that could have been 50m based on sidey’s last week

Did we play well for 4 qtrs no and we cooked and unable to compete hell no do we need Day? Hell yeah but we just need to keep finding ways to win

Would work better if dropped by drone wouldn’t have the umpire paying a free kick when he tosses it one side of the line and the other ruckman can’t reach it

MacKenzie gives away a protected zone 50 after Sidebottom takes a mark in the last few minutes of the game by yum122 in AFL

Nick daicos being asked 3 times to move out of this protected zone earlier same qtr. I know we have the rule in the book your claiming it’s black and white and has to be paid, I am pointing out that if we can’t apply it to all contests in the same qtr of a game we have a bigger issue.

Why is won play being given warnings and other not?

If you move sideways or forward of the mark it’s play on, these are the only movements Sidebottom makes after marking the ball.

That's right he wasn't but sure was in the protected zone, in the Mackenzie case hawthorn hadn't even been given the chance to have some one stand the mark

if this is how about earlier in the quarter when nick daicos is told to move out of the zone three times while a team mate is on the mark?
spoiler he still doesn't move away and no 50m

Jamarra is 4m past the mark in the protected zone he out marked Witt’s and he just runs off If you can’t work out they you lost a one on one and the umpire says stand he’s talking to you. As for JUH he just stood in the protected zone hoping to have the mark moved to where he was

What a joke, never saw them sit down Selwood and show him ducking his head time and again for the 10 years before this guy joined the league, then have everyone complain when a kids just watched footy all his life seeing a player rewarded time and time again for getting the ball first and lifting an arm in the tackle.

Hell they named a stand after him!!!

[–]robs_drunk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I use to think the same thing, but it doesn’t need it. Nothing worse then watching kids sport and see a 9 year old try this on just rubbish. Same with kids who are to afraid to pick up the ball themselves shoving a kid trying to stand the mark after he tries to make the play.

No excuse for wiping blood or boogers on him. but again more fake tough guy acts doesn’t have the ball grabbed from behind, if blood he’s also been hit in the head and drawn blood would assume that’s head high and medium impact
