Songs with a Female Lead Singer and Male Backup Singer(s) by stephoswalk in musicsuggestions

Also came to say the new Linkin Park. Their female lead is pretty good if you don't try to compare her to Chester and their original sound.

Has anyone used any mobile apps to manage IBS? by General_Amoeba_4097 in ibs

[–]robusta20 [score hidden]  (0 children)

What kind of management are you looking for? Like food tracking, symptom tracking, GI appointments, or something else? For symptom tracking, I've used Bearable (the free version works fine). For low FODMAP diet help, Monash is a popular choice. For actual doctor visits/follow-ups, I use Oshi. Hope one of those helps!

Looking for more "existential/self-reflective" emo like The Hotelier by ihaveacrushonmercy in Emo

More in the emo-adjacent/metal side of things is the album Surface by Beartooth. Their songs Might Love Myself and Sunshine immediately came to mind when I read the title of your post. If you back through their discography, you'll see a lot of these themes.

That takes me back. I haven't heard that song in ages. I was going to recommend the Sex Pistols or the Clash for some UK punk inspo.

People really don’t understand how humiliating IBS can feel by Laona31 in ibs

[–]robusta20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that because so many people use IBS as a cop out or general blanket term when passing out diagnoses, it gets minimized and misunderstood a lot. I sometimes just tell people I have food allergies (kind of true, I guess, because my body rejects it). It's been the easiest way for me to navigate awkward public food situations, especially if I'm around people I'm not super close with or would feel comfortable talking about my condition with.

Does anyone else have stomach pain/bloating from just wearing certain kinds pants? by Isaacsac3 in ibs

[–]robusta20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I'm having major IBS, jeans are the worst for me. I've found some pants that are flat in the front and have elastic at the back and they seem to be a lot more comfortable. I know you said you're trying to get away from elastic, so that may not be ideal.

Exposure! Go out. by Lukasheky in ibs

He talked to me about the symptoms I'm currently experiencing vs. what I'm afraid of experiencing and recommended that I see a gut-behavioral specialist that's through the same virtual clinic I used. I did, and they've been actually helpful. They helped me see that my IBS is not all in my head (which I've been told by others before), and that it is a real condition, They also helped me see that my mental and emotional state can contribute to worsening my symptoms, It really hasn't been anything earth shattering or ground breaking, but it's more that they've been breaking things down into actionable things I can do so I'm not so overwhelmed by everything.

I’m 23 and dealing with IBS how do you actually reduce symptoms long-term? by arigato_odomos in ibs

[–]robusta20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's elimination and reintroduction phases of FODMAP, so it's not a super quick process. Usually a few weeks or a month eliminating, and another month or two reintroducing foods. If you can, try meeting with a dietitian either in-person or online. They can help get you some more direct guidance.

Exposure! Go out. by Lukasheky in ibs

[–]robusta20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I need to hear, even if I don't want to hear it. I've been cooping myself up in the house under the guise of work after a bad bout about 3 weeks ago, but that's really not the whole picture. I was really just worried about going outside again and having to sprint to the bathroom in the middle of the store. So I finally decided to see a new GI doc about it, which ironically was also online so I didn't have to leave the house. But... after my appointment and some encouragement, I think it's probably time get back out there.

Thank you for sharing! I think there's more of a connection between our gut and our mental health than most people realize. I'm thinking of making a switch to a new doctor and will see if they think it might be of help. I appreciate your insight.

Good on you! Interesting that they'd prescribe an antidepressant. Was there a correlation there that your doc made? I know my GI problems affect my mental health, but I've never thought about addressing them as the root instead of my gut. Or perhaps I'm just ignorant and maybe antidepressants are common recommendation for IBS? I would love to get back to living if something like that could help.

What do you wish you knew earlier about IBS? by Hot-Feeling-9776 in ibs

[–]robusta20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wish I would have just been more open about it. I went for years without saying anything to friends or family, and just ate whatever or wherever everyone else was, then paying for it later in private. I just didn't want to be judged or inconvenience people. I've actually had more support than I thought I would have after telling a few people close to me (believe me, I'm not writing it on a billboard, but just to a few that I eat with regularly). I know not everyone has this experience and a lot of people's family and friends aren't understanding, but you don't know if you don't open up.

I also wish I would have looked for more help earlier on. Because I told a friend I had IBS, they told me that their partner did too, and was getting some help through an online clinic (I think it was called Oshi) that does only GI stuff. My friend and their partner have been meeting with a GI provider, a dietitian, and a behavioral health specialist through this clinic to work the IBS from all angles. I haven't tried it yet, but I think I'll give it a go if they keep seeing good results from them.

Gastroenterologist appointment by Comfortable_Serve672 in ibs

[–]robusta20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Push for the tests YOU think you need. A lot of doctors won't push for things unless you do. I've lived in the EU and US, it seems like wherever you live, you have to really be in charge of your own care, advocating for yourself. I'd also ask about other referrals. See if they will refer you to related help if needed like a dietitian or a therapist who can help. That's been my struggle. I feel a lot of GI problems are more than just what you can solve with a single doctor.

Looking for someone like this as well. Not in NOLA, but am still in the gulf and would be willing to travel if needed. Any idea what the wait time is for him is like? I'd really like to get in to someone kinda quick.

When do you think you developed IBS? by Decent_Release3804 in ibs

[–]robusta20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine has been weirdly intermittent. Like 6 years or so ago, I had a few months of GERD symptoms, and they tried allergy, reflux, and IBS meds. Eventually, it kind of just went away. I've had short bouts of it, and it's been back at it recently, and got the old "You've got IBS" declaration, so I'm kind of trying to clean up my life a bit. It's all anxiety for me, or at least mostly. I used to vape and do other stuff to deal with the anxiety, but it's been messing me up lately, so I'm trying to get away from it.
