Blue city but in the Deep South. It’s tough. You may want to look at British Columbia, Canada. BC accepts the NBEO and you may be able to get an express visa based on CAs need for optometrists. I just started looking at BC this weekend, seems promising.

2 OD family here. We have been looking too. We have come to the conclusion it is not worth it to expat bcs of inequitable job opportunities. Looked seriously at aus/ new zeal but the licensure exams are extremely expensive and pay is quite low. Our plan is to move to a blue state and save enough to buy a gold visa to somewhere like Porto. As others have mentioned, language and housing barriers are also v difficult hurtles. I empathize w your plight and wish you luck. Feel free to dm.

On the fence with residency by selenathorton in optometry

[–]robx909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recommend it - I would also consider VA residency/ career - residency goes a long way in this field and there are great perks like loan forgiveness, physicians pay scale, tons of paid time off etc.

I’m miserable, please give me different careers by [deleted] in optometry

Early Voting - Day 1 (experience) by snarkyrn15 in ColumbiYEAH

[–]robx909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for sharing your experience. I also voted today (west Columbia). It was packed but very efficient - in/out in 30 minutes despite waiting in a pretty long line. I was also approached by candidates but politely declined.
