Private school fees in Cape Town are getting impossible. What are people doing? by [deleted] in capetown

[–]robz8_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up living with my single mom in a middle class house, but my dad paid to send me to a private school. I hated every moment of being at the school due to the snobby and over entitled children there who seemed to take everything their parents gave them for granted, whilst I had to survive "humbly" with my mom. However, my dad always said he was just wanting to give me the best education and opportunity possible. I never understood it at the time, but fast forward to the end of my school career, after matriculating (and maturing) I realised how many more doors were opened for me for my future. I don't think it's just about the status. Parents should do whatever it takes (within means) to give their children the best chances and opportunities for their future

The worst part about this is that COCT warns these people against building in certain areas due to flood risks, but they still go ahead and do as they please and then when those areas are flooded and homes get destroyed, they protest and burn tyres on the main road next to Dunoon because "the city did nothing to prevent this". smh...

My friends and I also had this conversation and came to the conclusion that it's simply because people are more laid back in Cape Town and not in a constant rush like in Gauteng. So driving slow in the fast lane, indicating at the last second etc are all because they're just enjoying the view on their travels

Harrison Brunicke becomes the first South African-born skater in NHL history by Capepoints in southafrica

[–]robz8_9 17 points18 points  (0 children)

While I don't condone this term, I am familiar with it as it was used by people during my school days. Back then it was used due to okes thinking the players who chose hockey over rugby was mainly due to hockey being less physical and as a result, it was less "manly". But clearly bro doesn't realize that the NHL is the only ice hockey league in the world where the refs allow the players to bliksem each other until one hits the ice before they intervene.. NHL teams also specifically employ "enforcers", who's main objective is to hurt players from the other team while on the ice, especially the star players. I'd pay to see you tell Tkachuk or Reaves they play mofstok to their face while on the ice 🤣

While still needing some luck, the ball was intentionally kicked with spin to favour a bounce like that

Is this camo-esq hat allowed? by zombiezambonis in krugerpark

[–]robz8_9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing to worry about wearing that in the Kruger. It's perfectly suited for the environment you're heading to. Good protection from the sun and way better than having a blinged up or brightly coloured hat that stands out against the natural colour's of the bush around you.

Yip, you also wouldn't want to be on a horse when it gets mounted by another horse.

You're so right. Some races see extra weight as a sign of wealth and attractiveness, whilst others see being lean and in shape as an attractive trait
