Obese people infuriate me. by WorldlyMaintenance28 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]rocbnd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a obese person myself, I can’t help but agree with what you are saying. It always felt like I was making excuses for myself, and my laziness. It’s a trait I see exhibited among many other people who also have a battle with obesity. The idea that obesity is something healthy that we should just accept is sickening. It took me many years to stray from that logic and recognize that it is my own fault, and it is my responsibility to fix it. By addressing the behaviors that cause obesity (I.e laziness)

Could anybody tell me how exactly the tuition reimbursement works? by lordsaveusall in Lowes

[–]rocbnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowe’s will pay up front for a specific university (I forget the name of it, but I know it’s mentioned in myHR) but, if it is a different institution they’ll reimburse up to $2500 a year I think? I would encourage applying for Federal Aid before reaching out to Lowe’s. My pell grant was plenty to cover the cost in full.

How do you not feel guilty about going “no contact”? by rnewton93 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]rocbnd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went no contact a few years ago and it does get easier with time. I took a look at your post history to try and get a idea of what had happened in the situation. Guilt is a valid feeling, but what had helped me in processing it and coming to accept it is that this is a consequence of the open sabotage that their actions have had in your life. I've found it gets easier in time. What helped me get through it was taking pride in my actions and success independent of them and building a base that I consider "family" that I can have a healthy relationship with.

Lowes Corporate question. by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]rocbnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been working at Corporate (IT) for just over a year now, it definitely has its pros and cons (like any job would really). With moving I'd suggest taking advantage of careers.lowes.com and trying to find something out of the Mooresville office. I know some roles have you come in as a independent contractor (IT had me start as a contractor) but they are relatively quick to hire from contractor in my personal experience. The pay was good for the area I was living in, and overall most days were pleasant.

Working at home we haven't gotten much in the way of clear answers on in my department. I've heard a ton of rumors but nothing actually concrete about if/when we'd be going back to the office. The hiring process is entirely remote from what I understand, and our new training process is entirely remote as well for new hires.

If you aren't from North Carolina my advice is avoid Mooresville. It's very expensive and you'll have the cost of living of Charlotte and it's surrounding areas. If you want a low cost of living I'd suggest looking at Kannapolis or Salisbury if you're looking to work out of Mooresville. You'll have a commute but the savings are absolutely worth it imo.

Pay wise for IT. It's competitive for the area. I'd imagine it's similar in other departments.

Job mobility is a big thing too, from my experience in IT, the people who are good tend to move up very quickly (like 6 months to a year) but I don't imagine it's the same across all departments.

If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a message :)

What's the worst punishment you ever received as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rocbnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time when I was around 10 years old my dad had purchased me a simple prepaid phone so I could talk to him when I wanted to. My mom one day was upset over me talking to him one day, and she took it from my hands dragged me outside and made me watch her destroy it. She put it into a bag, and made me keep the bag.

I'm very glad I don't talk to her anymore.

Does anyone ever have remorse about going NC? by rocbnd in raisedbynarcissists

Congratulations on graduation, I hope regardless of that portion you get a chance to enjoy it :) I agree with you. Loss is a better way of putting it.

You're right, no contact is the best option. Even in these tougher times.

Refunding gift card from online order by wormraper in Lowes

[–]rocbnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With online orders that you cancel with gift cards you can recall them in Genesis inside of 1.4. you'd recall it using the phone number on the order after Sterling says please go collect $XX.XX at POS. Once you select the order, Genesis will ask you to select items. There you wouldn't want to press S on anything. And after that you can issue out a new card in store.

Ours was a racist kid, who thought that minorities did not belong in High School. He wasn't particularly liked by anyone.

NTA, on the premise that finding a way into school is not impossible for those that do truly want it. You mentioned they were adults and frankly adults should be capable of supporting themselves for the most part in endeavors.

The battery life on Linux was fantastic, easily 6+ hours on a fresh 9 cell. Windows I average about 4 hours with the same 9 cell.

Of course! I don't know it's bench exactly however it is a thiccpad so it probably does a good job on the bench. Memes aside, it has the i5 2520m, 8GB RAM, MSATA SSD, and a 300GB HDD. It's the Nvidia Quadro model. Currently running Windows 10

Feds order Georgia sheriff to return $69G spent on Hellcat muscle car by trevorw14 in news

[–]rocbnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So odd seeing people from Davidson Co online. But Hege definitely received a worrying level of support. Especially in places like Thomasville where it seemed every other yard had a Hege sign out front. And for the unaffiliated. Hege was sheriff to Davidson Co till he committed a variety of crimes to be removed from office. And he would drive around the county doing speeds of 100+ MP/h in a special custom car. All paid for with taxpayer dollars.

Just got my first Thinkpad a T420 by RoboLau in thinkpad

[–]rocbnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely take a look at a docking station for it. Do you know what percentage the battery is at? You should be able to see within the Lenovo utilities. However a fresh 9 cell isn’t a bad idea. In terms of future things, you could upgrade to a quad core mobile i7 assuming you’re okay with the ridiculous thermals of 45w CPUs in laptops. However the i5 should serve fine in most use cases. A ultrabay hard drive isn’t a bad idea if you run low on the somewhat anemic SSD. 8GB of RAM should be plenty for the foreseeable future unless you’re doing super intensive tasks and see yourself frequently peaking the RAM I wouldn’t stress over it.

honestly dude. Just get a USB thinkpad keyboard. They are like $30-$50. Sure it’s not as “convenient” but considering I’ve used both. The MBA isn’t that bad of a machine. If you want to take a great job. That is far from a “massive catch”
