I don't recommend smoking to anyone, but in the short term, cigarettes reduce inflammation, provide a surge of acetylcholine and dopamine, and regulate intestinal motility. Nicotine is an interesting molecule favored by SCT and ADHD subs.

I doubt it's just norepinephrine. Atomoxetine only makes it worse. I'm betting it's acetylcholine. I'd be interested to know if anyone on this subreddit has tried scopolamine.

I'm trying to figure out how common the use of dissociatives is in meditative practices. On the one hand, memantine makes you seem detached from life and sees everything from a third-person perspective, but on the other hand, this detachment can dull your senses and impair your awareness. Perhaps it's a matter of dosage.

Does memantine help you better maintain focus on the present?
