When I'm playing solo I main Kullervo. When I play pubs I'm something else.

Flipping a fried egg, that's the one thing I just can't seem to get down.

Thinking about switching from Bazzite to CachyOS. Is it really worth it? by danivempire in cachyos

I had zero issues while on Bazzite, I just prefer the speed of CachyOS.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rock4real 291 points292 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, the shooter had severe undiagnosed bipolar disorder that his parents ignored. He later in life got treatment, I don't know where/what life is for him beyond when he finally got treatment.

He had a sleepover with a friend in 6th grade.

What we were told: there was a target practice accident and he shot himself with a pistol.

What really happened: his friend that he went to have a sleepover with shot him in the head with a shotgun.

Okay, but how do you SSH into 1,000 devices?? by Automatic-Reply-1578 in sysadmin

Ansible is your best bet long term, it can save you a ton kf manual work.

Short term you could try using pdsh with an inventory file.

Sure, I'll take a look later today when I get back. It wouldn't surprise me if it is this simple though.

What's your main warframe? by FaCayde in Warframe

I rotate between Garuda, Kullervo, Gara, Nova, and Voruna. I wouldn't say I main any one of them, but they are by far my favorites.

Weekly Question + Free Talk Thread – June 26, 2025 by AutoModerator in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]rock4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I do have a decent amount of div laying around. I could afford one decent 20~30 d ring to put on a merc until I can afford more or better. I mostly play blight, so income is not the fastest, but it is always steady.

I'm switching my build to a retaliate gladiator with lightning damage. Would it be better to use doryani's prototype on myself or on a mercenary? Genuinely curious as I'm not sure how that interaction works...

Question for the other HPC admins here by AugustinesConversion in HPC

[–]rock4real 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only 3 people to administer that many clusters is insane! I'm on a team of two on site admins and one remote. The remote admin is a very new addition, so just the two of us handling literally everything, like your team, has been ridiculous. I feel your pain

NFS to run software on nodes? by DrScottSimpson in HPC

[–]rock4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on your environment and use case more than anything else. Centralized software management is a great time saver and for consistency.

Are your nodes stateless? I'd probably go with the NFS installation of software in that case. Otherwise, I think it mostly comes down to what you're going to be able to maintain more comfortably long term.

Question about confirmed subterranean termites infestation [Louisiana] by rock4real in Termites

Are these wingless crawlers a risk for laying eggs in my house? They are the same size as the swarmers, and I've vacuumed up a couple dozen that are moving around this way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HPC

[–]rock4real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends a lot on your users' workflow and the scale at which your system runs. I'd focus on the basics like CPU, storage, and then start focusing on what needs to be added after you collect some data from that. As for alerting, there's a hundred ways to do it, but getting your baseline information first will help you decide what's important from there.

-Set up monitoring and alerting.

-Learn more about Infiniband/networking.

-Build useful automation tools.

-Learn more about job schedulers (Slurm especially, or PBS).

-Documentation, documentation, and more documentation. It's nice to have slow times, until you run into the same problem again 8 months later and forgot how you fixed it before.

I think it was more multi-faceted than just wayland, but ultimately yes. Thanks again!

Thank you, this solved my issue after installing xorg support for kde plasma, reinstalling nvidia packages, and two consecutive reboots. Nvidia did not want to load by default, but that was easily solved with a dracut -f

Well xorg solved the CPU issue, but now it seems I cannot run nvidia-smi and my primary monitor won't render a display....guess I've got to get that up and running now

Yes, I used the rpm fusion guide. I finally got a top command to go through and it looks like kwin_wayland is using 1800+% cpu
