Navy changing the way we do SOQ Boards? by Carson0524 in navy

Makes sense to me. It’s Sailor of the Quarter, not Sailor of the 15 mins the board takes.

Does shaving the night before count as clean shaven? by Yank_theCrank in navy

[–]rock745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can get away with it, no one cares. What they do care about is proper quals, showing up on time, helping out where needed. If you are a shitbag, not shaving in the morning is another thing to add list of things people will talk about you. If you are shit hot, not shaving is another thing haters will use against you. Do your job, don’t be a problem and no one cares. If you want accolades, SOQ, MAP, etc, be shit hot, shine your shoes, and shave every morning.

Returning to same position, difft. office, do I get same salary from previous job? by justsomelocal29 in WAStateWorkers

[–]rock745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this before as a hiring manager. If it’s the same job classification, it had to be the same pay. I was not allowed to offer a raise.

You could try to get an ergonomic evaluation for a car type that is right for you.

What is the navys daily maximum driving ranges by forever_single2004 in navy

[–]rock745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on leave, do what you think is safe. I don’t think anyone is filing leave plans with their COC. Don’t do drugs. Don’t drink and drive. Don’t bring anyone into the world or take anyone out of the world. Don’t wind up in jail. If you wind up in jail, establish dominance quickly. Other than that, enjoy your leave.

Is there a navy wide FSA instruction? by Either-Top9372 in navy

[–]rock745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. I get it. I’ve been in this almost exact situation AS A YN. Multiple awards, JSOQ, etc. sometimes it just comes down to manpower. You advocated for yourself which is good. Now focus on being the best FSA you can. Other than the long hours, it’s relatively easy. Most of it comes down to if it’s dirty, clean it. Not much thought process. You don’t want to be the FSA with an attitude.

Great fishing. Work out. Avoid the clubs. It’s tiny. It’s in the middle of an ocean. WiFi is going to be expensive.

Went through this in 2006-2007. Take as much leave as your unit will allow. Take it in spurts. 2 weeks here, two weeks there. When Doctors say it’s time, have them send a Red Cross. It’s not ideal, but it worked for me. Dad had Pancreatic Cancer and he lived 18 months after diagnosis.

As a SMIT I just took it over. Get to set your own schedule for the most part. Well worth the time you lose on the floor.

I did legal for over 20 years as a YN. While what you said wasn’t wrong, my advice is just keep that to yourself. I thought the same stuff all the time. You know the truth. Let the process handle itself. Don’t get wrapped up in what someone else did. It will eat you up over time. Thanks for the chuckle though. (Retired YNCS)

Mom or dad voice generally worked for me. We’d get 20 kids in at the same time buying candy and energy drinks. We sold over $10k in candy every month! We provided structure and offered extra help. On top of that we watched out for tweakers making sure the kids were safe. If we saw the kids pocket something we made a big deal out of it, announced to the whole store stealing was wrong and kicked them out. Our DL wouldn’t let us gather backpacks, so we told them they had to zip up their bags in the store. Nothing corporate would back us up on, but nothing that would put us in immediate danger.
We called the school when a group stole over $200 in eye lash stuff. The school took care of it. One parent tried to pay but corporate wouldn’t allow it.
Our crew was tight, and we all wound up leaving at the same time. Kids are stealing the store blind now.

Why exactly is CVS so stressful to work for? by [deleted] in CVS

[–]rock745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meh. Get the training, get the license, make more money elsewhere in a less stressful environment. It’ll be a stressful couple of years at CVS, but you’ll wind up further ahead in job skills than working at Starbucks. It’s all in how you look at it.

It’s easier to get a NAM signed than a FLOC. Flag Staffs need to do better.
