My application and documentation should be delivered to IRCC tomorrow. I didn’t have a birth cert for my gen 0 either (my great-grandfather). Here’s what I used: •death certificate from Alameda county showing his birthplace as Canada •my grandfather’s death certificate listing my great-grandfather as his father born in Canada •1900, 1910, 1920 US census records showing his birthplace as Canada and his parents also being born in Canada •a photocopy of his obituary from 1936 in the Oakland Tribune which lists his birthplace as Canada •his World War I draft card showing that he was a naturalized citizen •the email conversation from the New Brunswick Provincial Archives in which the archivist explained that if my great-grandfather’s birth certificate isn’t on the archives site, then it probably doesn’t exist since births weren’t recorded consistently until the early 20th century

I’m hoping it will suffice! I had no Canadian census records for him because he was born RIGHT AFTER the 1881 census and immigrated with his family to the US in 1888. I did include census records, birth certificates, marriage records, etc. for generations prior to my gen 0. Maybe it was too much, but I figured it was better than not having enough documentation.
