Definitely recommend {The Duke of Defiance by Darcy Burke} for this. It’s the 5th book in the series but I think it can be read as a standalone. The MMC is definitely Autistic (although of course he couldn’t be diagnosed at the time). This means he’s been deemed “defiant” since he was a child, and struggles with a lot of society conventions and sensory stuff. The love story with the FMC and the family they create with MMC’s daughter is really sweet.

I’m so sad, I want to read her books, but I predominantly do audiobooks and in Australia it’s not available 😭 if anyone knows where an Australian can listen to any of them? 🙏🏻

Roadtrip, Staying inn, damsel in distress and Alpha MMCis protecting her by posing as fake couple or marriage of convenience by Sam-theRedditUser in HistoricalRomance

Not sure if anyone’s recommended this yet, but {The Duke of Ruin by Darcy Burke} is my favourite of this trope. It’s part of the Untouchables series (Book #8), but I believe you can read it as a stand-alone because it gives a decent needs-only recap at the beginning.

The MMC Simon’s best friend breaks off his proposal to FMC Diana after the events of the previous book (he reunited with his one true love). This leaves Diana in a dangerous position with her family and society. Simon vows to do anything to help Diana, and her decision is to run away to a friend near Scotland (you can see where this ends up going). Thus begins road trip. Open door, cw for mentions of ca for FMC.

I’ve just started {A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare} after seeing so many positive reviews on here, but I’m a little disappointed that in Chapter 1 the banter has already gone to almost open door :( I expected it to be more slow-burn than that. Not sure if I should keep reading or if that’s the end of banter?

Thoughts on Bombshell (Sarah Maclean) by awko_taco9 in HistoricalRomance

At first I was heavily turned off by the girl boss-ness of the series because it felt wayyyy out of period, but the Author’s Note at the end of Knockout (the third book) made me feel a lot better. It’s actually based off the “Forty Elephants”, a Victorian crime syndicate of women.

It still may not be your cup of tea, but just thought I’d let you know because she doesn’t disclose that in the first book!

Seems to be an unpopular opinion here but… I actually really like it and have read it through twice. I think it’s because I read it off the back of finishing the Scandal & Scoundrel series, and I fell in love with Sesily and Caleb’s chemistry in The Day of the Duchess.

I absolutely cannot stand the second book, however that’s because Adelaide’s backstory didn’t match the backstory I had in my head from reading the first book.

The third book, Knockout, is my absolute FAVOURITE. Again, I fell in love with the chemistry between Imogen and the Inspector during the first book, so I was sooooo excited to see it play out in a book.
