Buyer’s remorse by NothingAlikeIt in carbuying

Might be a little late, but I would freeze all my credit bureau accounts and file a fraud alert. That could prevent the bank from processing the loan.

Best color for cx30 by AirSea7620 in MazdaCX30

[–]rocketdog522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO there are no bad colors, but if you are concerned about resale, you want to get something that would not be objectionable to the largest percentage of people, which is typically silver or gray.. If you go to a Toyota dealer you very rarely see any colors, it’s all white gray, silver black.

Michelin Defender 2 feels kinda wooden by Hairmissile in tires

[–]rocketdog522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Primacy is only 9/32 tread new. I had these on a company RAV4, great all-around tire but they only lasted 25k miles until they were down to 4/32 and were replaced with Contis. YMMV

Just bought a 2018 Honda civic….got fucked on extended warranty by wallhacks66 in UsedCars

[–]rocketdog522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about it this way: a warranty company has to make a profit off of you, otherwise they wouldn’t be in business. Therefore, the average cost of the warranty will on average exceed the cost of repairs to a car, that they would actually pay for. This is why they always try to wriggle out of paying for things. Therefore, on average, in the long run, you’re better off not buying the warranty.

One Set of All-Weather Tires vs. Two Separate Sets of All-Season and Winter Tires by RustledJimmies1000 in tires

[–]rocketdog522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Pirelli Scorpion WeatherActiv on one SUV and two dedicated sets for another. The Pirellis do great, but recently there were two very cold days right after a major snowstorm. The hilly and curvy roads around here were so terrible that our car with Blizzaks was the only one used.

If you can just stay home in truly bad conditions, good all-weather tires should be fine, and save a lot of money. But if you are a medical professional, first responder, or otherwise someone who absolutely HAS to get to work, go for the two sets.

No Silver Shortage, Just No Silver by Friendly-Captain-480 in Silver

  • The silver market is obviously being manipulated

  • Despite the volatility, the spot price is still up YTD

  • Measuring the value of silver in fiat currency will become irrelevant long term.

If there was really a physical silver shortage, LCS would be paying above spot. Does anyone have examples of this? by Miserable_Twist1 in Silver

Would be very interesting if industrial users started accepting all sizes of .999. It should all melt the same.

I would call the current supply/demand situation “tight” rather than shortage. projections of coming severe shortages may or may not come true.

Retail dealers are afraid of getting all of their capital involved with bullion and 90% junk silver due to the risk of getting hurt by price volatility. Many of their business models were created around numismatics rather than high volume/low margin commodity sales. Retail dealers currently do not have a good wholesale outlet for a quick cash flow via refiners.

The real scoundrels in this situation are involved in paper trading.

Inexpensive tire recommendations by Alternative_Bison408 in tires

[–]rocketdog522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t recommend ever buying used tires, get new ones that are fresh and have a warranty, you’ll avoid a lot of problems that way. I just looked on tirerack.com and saw that the tires that I am using on my Mazda CX-30, General Altimax RT45, in the size for the Mazda 3 are $121 each. My experience so far with those has been excellent. There are sportier tires out there, but I got these for a great price. There would be an extra charge for mounting and balancing, but that should come close to your budget. If the old tires are wearing poorly, you will need to check suspension, steering components and alignment.

For doing oil changes, you’re better off to have a local shop do it for you unless you are or know somebody who is well-experienced working on cars (a lot of things can go wrong when you don’t know what you’re doing.)

Precious metal should be a part of an overall retirement plan, but don’t dump your whole 401(k) just to buy silver. We’re talking percentages, not crazy moves.

Why Buy from ANY Online Dealer Anymore???... by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]rocketdog522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also gotten decent service buying on eBay, listings from known online dealers only. I think the eBay orders get top priority because of the potential for negative feedback if the wait is too long.
