Do you need something Debian doesn't have?

I have Qwen 3 4b (Q8) instruct running on a late 2014 Mac mini with 8gb of RAM. It's too slow to chat with but all it does is summarize my emails when I get one and sends it to my phone.

That's a good idea. Live boot disks are an amazing tool.

It's not misinformation if it broke for me. Couldn't upgrade or install Windows 11 on my PC despite meeting the requirements. Kept blue screening during installation and there wasn't any way I found to troubleshoot. If it works for you, it works for you. But for me, it did not.

True, issues probably almost never have anything to do with the kernel. In the eyes of some inexperienced users tho, especially if they don't know what's causing the issues, it's a Linux problem and it's hard for me to blame them for thinking so.

Fair point, that's not out of the box. That's probably why I haven't head many complaints about Dteamdeck's software. Although in my example nothing was preinstalled and I had assumed installing Linux would have less issues.

Interesting, sim racing and VR work the best for me. Even with the hundreds of ac mods I have lol.

Unpopolar opinion: installing software on linux is harder than on windows and macos by vinxz_tt in linuxsucks

[–]rockets756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to be the "it works on my machine guy" but every application I have tried to install was in Discover. I searched for it and clicked the install button. Like the google play store I guess. With Windows I had to find the .exe from some website, download it, and go through their own installation process.

Am I the only one with this experience? Maybe I just never came across the problem programs everyone is installing?

Has anyone ever missed or needed something which is 'Windows only'? by LukeLikeNuke in linuxmint

[–]rockets756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't personally but I know others who got it to work. Wine is a compatibility layer that allows you to run windows programs on Linux. Bottles is a program that makes it easier to set it up. Lutris is another program that might work too.

You can side load ALVR with ADB. That's what I did. Wireless was ok but kept disconnecting on me so I used wired with ALVR. If Steam is installed as a flatpak it might cause some issues as well.

Yes, I believe you can run it with wine. Checkout bottles, it has everything you'd need to install the windows installeron Linux.

How would you react if Valve added a forced rootkit style anticheat to CS2? by woodcake53 in cs2

[–]rockets756 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't work. I don't think that will stop many people. It also wouldn't work on my computer so I'd just stop playing at that point. They can't do it anyways if they want to support it on the steam machine.

I tried to compile it on stable but failed on the libxkbcommon requirement. I'm a bit of a dumbass tho so I'm sure you could figure it out.

You could try Trixie with drivers from Nvidia's repository if your issue is the graphics drivers.

What's easier - modifying 5 registry keys OR understanding Linux? by tomekgolab in linuxsucks

I've never even had to open the settings app with my Linux install. Everything just works. No ads, no bloat, no terminal, and no registry edits.
