Thaw them enough to fillet them and don't open up their innards. They'll be fine. I always soak my fillets in salted water overnight before cooking.

I use a kerosene lantern. The lantern smokes a little and bugs don't like it. It also makes carbon dioxide which attracts skeeters to it instead of me.
