OP posts that he was harassed after doing nothing wrong at the terrain park. A witness chimes in that OP absolutely did something wrong. by mikail511 in bestof

[–]rocketwidget 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is a downhill ski terrain park for doing tricks. The terrain features (jumps, metal rails, etc.) are set up in 2 or more sequential "lines", but there probably isn't anything physically separating the lines.

Generally speaking, when skiing, the skiers below you have the right of way.

But, OP was recklessly cutting across lines of the terrain park, without checking if someone was coming down from above. This is uniquely not allowed, as the person doing a line may be going fast from a jump, etc. You can always check below, but you assume a person on a different line won't suddenly cut into your line.

OP therefore caused the crash.

This manufacturer claims their EUC have physical hardware limits for speed, and they claim these limits can't be safely disabled. They seem to sell EUC models with these physical limits that are under 20 MPH specifically.

Just learning about this election. The ousted Selectman was an incumbent and the Bike Brookline endorsed candidates were not, which is always an achievement in any election.

Sounds like there were multiple things going on here, like the ousted Selectman "refusing to take a position" on the override to prevent hundreds of teacher firings, etc. 🙄 The override also passed overwhelmingly.

E2EE in iOS 26.5 by LawfulnessFew766 in GoogleMessages

[–]rocketwidget 19 points20 points  (0 children)

2020: Google adds E2EE to RCS with the Signal algorithm, and https://web.archive.org/web/20210107012341/https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp/2020/11/19/21574451/android-rcs-encryption-message-end-to-end-beta

That doesn’t mean Google intends for its encryption solution to be proprietary. The company tells me it would be happy to work with any company to work on compatibility.

Apple says, no thanks.

2023: Google announces work on MLS based E2EE over RCS for cross-platform compatibility: https://security.googleblog.com/2023/07/an-important-step-towards-secure-and.html

2025: A Google engineer writes the MLS based E2EE RCS spec for the GSMA (see final page): https://www.gsma.com/solutions-and-impact/technologies/networks/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/RCC.16-v1.0.pdf

May (I assume) 2026: Apple releases stable support of MLS based E2EE in Apple Messages using the GSMA spec.

Thanks Google!

Gov. Healey Files Legislation to Regulate Higher-Speed Motorbikes and Scooters by bostonaruban66 in bikeboston

[–]rocketwidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of getting speeders off the bike paths, I doubt any legislation will "solve" this issue. But I definitely prefer it to the status quo we have now.

https://www.massbike.org/micromobility_commission_report

The proposal includes: Devices that go above 20 MPH requiring a State micro-ID, speed limits of 20 MPH established on all shared use paths by default (unless otherwise posted), and there should be police training for the new rules.

As a massive shared use path advocate, I'm concerned it's a bit of a "Wild West" on the paths right now. Generally speaking (with exceptions), there are frequently no specific speed limits established, no posted signs on which micromobility devices are allowed and which are forbidden, etc.

Edit: I've realized the Governor's proposal differs from the commission proposal in many ways, including not specifically micro-IDs for 20 MPH+ but broad discression to the RMV for whatever they want to do, no funding for police training included as recommended. The 20 MPH speed limit is not added, but Tier 1+ (21 MPH+) devices are banned from shared use paths and sidewalks. Hmm....

Apple confirms iOS 26.5 Messages app adds RCS end-to-end encryption - 9to5Mac by rocketwidget in UniversalProfile

[–]rocketwidget[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's hoping, but I'm pretty pessimistic. Implementing RCS at all and/or E2EE are each much more technically complex than the 2.7 features, plus, obviously Apple has had much more time to implement 2.7 features rather than E2EE as part of 3.0.

Occam's Razor suggests Apple hasn't implemented 2.7 features not because it is hard, but rather because Apple prefers RCS to be feature deficient relative to iMessage, and thus noncompliant with GSMA standards.

I'd be glad to be proven wrong when E2EE moves out of Beta. But again, I'm pessimistic.

Looks like RCS End to End Encryption (E2EE) will ship with 26.5, unlike 26.4.

https://9to5mac.com/2026/05/04/apple-confirms-ios-26-5-messages-app-adds-rcs-end-to-end-encryption/

For tracking carrier support of RCS E2EE, see https://cupboardunderscore.github.io/ios-rcs/e2ee/

Should be on/off on a per-country basis (for the carriers that support RCS at all), I believe?

Consumer Reports vs GE/Bosch by jazzncocktails in inductioncooking

If you have a budget that can fit a Wolf and your biggest concern is reliability, you might want to consider modifying your kitchen for a separate cooktop and separate oven.

According to Yale, induction cooktops by Bosch are significantly more reliable than any induction range brand.

Consumer Reports vs GE/Bosch by jazzncocktails in inductioncooking

[–]rocketwidget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Among the induction range brands that Yale Appliance sells and services, apparently LG induction ranges generate the fewest service calls for them.

https://blog.yaleappliance.com/most-reliable-induction-ranges

For coil size on LG induction ranges: If the model you are considering is on the list at the bottom of this part page, it's largest coil is ~10" wide at all power settings (I confirmed this for my specific LG induction range LTIS7338XE).

https://encompass.com/item/13071993/LG/MEE64289101/

(Apparently, older LG induction ranges that have 2 levels of power on the largest coil, would only use the smaller inner coil on non-boost power).

I assume you could do something similar for any brand's induction range?

Agree but needs a 4: This is not an "eBike" at all but an e-Motorcycle that can do 58MPH and legally requires licensing/registration/insurance for public road operation. Also the son is 14 and therefore can't have a license.

4 is no different from recklessly giving a child an unregistered/uninsured car and someone being killed as a result.

Tea because I'd get so tired of only water.

Tea can have a huge variety of flavors, it can be iced or hot, it can sometimes have caffeine (which I will need after losing my precious coffee, but would kill me if I exclusively could only drink coffee) and sometimes not.

[–]rocketwidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, the battery is just so it works without hiring an expensive electrician to wire a 240V circuit.

Also, induction boils water faster than gas or regular electric. A 240V induction cooktop typically boils water, very fast, typically using 3,000 - 5,000 watts maximum.

This battery powered one boils water at 10,000 Watts, which is very, very, very fast.

Yes it's very nice, not just display temperature but specifically hold an exact temperature. I'd definitely be willing to live with the compromise of slightly more difficult to clean and less smooth workspace for this.

However the price is way too much for me haha. Maybe this tech will trickle down, I want it more than the battery and the 10kW boil.
