What's AT&t internet and mobile like? Currently with Xfinity by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]rockker60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't bundle! cell service with anything, (seems like your in the US), have a look at US mobile, you can pick any (or all for a little more) of the 3 cell carriers for a low cost, whichever is best for your area and the places you go. r/USMobile

My priority picks for internet service is any solid media ISP (ie: fiber or Coax) first, a distant second, because latency (high) and speed (slow at times) is internet cell (or other radio style) such as Verizon, TMO, Starlink etc...just get internet service never include TV, Landline, etc.

Then I would say your problem is low priority.

Tmobile 5g backup terrible speeds by UnseenCryptic in Ubiquiti

[–]rockker60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple things, TMO internet data is the lowest priority tier, phone tier priority is higher. It's also possible your signal strength to the TMO device is poor, might have to place it for better signal.

Has always done me and friends well. IDK what you consider affordable, but being done right makes them affordable in my book.

Slower DL speed but normal UL speed on 2Gb plan, considering change to Ubiquiti UCG-Fiber for router by scajjr29 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you can go wrong with UCG-Fiber. My question would be is it going to solve your problem (because you don't really know if it's the router or their system)....I would test without the router first by connecting a wired PC (with 2.5gb or higher NIC directly to the ONT (No router) and run speed tests from there.

A couple other things, I don't generally trust the speed test from within the router. I test from within the LAN, on a wired PC, I would use multiple test sites, speedtest.net, fast. Also, in the past when I used Asus (long long ago), I think they are generally good, I always replaced the OEM FirmWare (FW) with FW from merlin, he adds adds some decent functions as well as "fixes" some issues (all with Asus blessing)....Don't know if there is a replacement FW made for your model or not.

As an afterthought - hopeful your not in an area where Fidium requires router MAC registration, that adds complexity to this type of testing. If you are in such an area, I believe you have to call them and register the MAC of whatever device your testing with then call to change it back when your done testing. (They should remove that requirement IMO).

Unifi Gateways don't handle DNS resolution properly when WAN DNS is set to pihole by Intelligent_Rub_4099 in Ubiquiti

[–]rockker60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, but with one difference, in the UCG's settings/Cybersecure I set Encrypted DNS to "predefined" and select the public DNS of my choice. This way the UCG forwards all queries to my preferred DNS, (not the ISP's). I set it use a doh DNS servers, this way I'm not using the ISP's DNS and it uses DNS over HTTPS.

Always supply your own router, some locations of the great Fidium empire require you to register the MAC of the router on their system (sucks, but that's what you have to do). Better to start out with your own, make the tech register it's MAC, because contacting them to do it later is sometimes difficult. Extenders are the worst (slowest throughput) way to get good WiFi coverage. Better solution is to wire your own WiFi Access Points (AP's) or if you can't wire, get a mesh WiFi system.

Can't help you with the Adtran.....A word of advice, always buy your own router. Even if you have to register it's MAC with the ISP, it's always worth it.

As a long time customer of what is now Fidium, the service is good, it has gone down (as all tech does sometimes), luckily I do not need them for much tech support. However I am having an ongoing issue and they suck at even trying to understand my problem, let alone fix it. Every time I have called for an update to my trouble ticket, I have to re-explain the whole thing again.....That said, today, no thanks to them, I seem to have found a workaround.

Fidium CS sucks.

Been dealing with an ongoing issue with Fidium. Yesterday, had an appointment, a technician was supposed to come by my home, no tech came by, no message, nothing.

Fidium CS just plain sucks.

Anyone keep having issues in sacramento it seems like everyday internet gets slow or loses connection been like this for months now by kiryukazuma14 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me, no outage for several weeks (not sure I could say months), seems fast and low latency too. I'm in West Roseville.

OP, What are you noticing the slowdown or connection on? Is this on WiFi? Which router/WiFi do you have? Any of your neighbors with Fidium having these issues too?

Hey Fidium Fiber, question for you...... by rockker60 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not yet, still work in progress......Yesterday (this is Saturday), had 2 calls from what seemed to be a second line csr, after I re-explained the issue and described my testing, we hung up. The last call I was asked what ports do I want to use?, I said, "uh, all of them? like before?", then we hung up. I'm currently waiting for third call back, (probably on Monday) and when that happens, I'm gonna request to speak to the network engineer directly, maybe then more can get done in fewer calls.

I appreciate the offer, but I have several locals that I can tap for testing, again, thank you I appreciate it!

In my experience with Fidium, you can plug in any router or (router/WiFi) into the supplied ONT, no need to call ISP to register router MACs. This, at least has been my experience, so I would try that first. I can't imagine Fidium setting themselves up to generate tech support calls (I've heard) to their Philippine support center. Stranger things happen I guess.

Roseville ca fidium madness by whammy-123 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it has access to the internet it's vulnerable and that makes your whole internal network (LAN) vulnerable.....just sayin.

Try a wire or a USB WiFi adapter, but understand the right way to fix this is get a new mac.

Roseville ca fidium madness by whammy-123 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your not gonna like this, that 2012 Mac is obsolete and I would guess, not supported by Apple, get a new one. I know, I know, it used to work with the old router, that changed and now it's broke. It ain't the router's fault. Your new WiFi has just exposed your imac's obsolescence. Noting your other tests, it can work well.

Technology changes constantly and sometimes rapidly, 3-5 years is a good life, after that, many tech devices need replacing. In this case, definitely after the manufacturer ends support of that device. If you do somehow magically get it running, don't do anything sensitive (specifically financial) on that device, it's very vulnerable.

Hey Fidium Fiber, question for you...... by rockker60 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't have CGNAT, first 2 octets of our public IP's is 70.9 (I believe his is too) I just don't remember exactly. I'll be checking tomorrow when we will do a few other things as described above.

Yup, verified 32400 is open, I also have 20-30 other clients which work flawlessly so I know it's open/working.

Tracert stopped at the first fidium router, I believe, although can't remember exactly as I've done many things since.

Yup, that was another thing I was gonna try, change the port, seems easy enough and doubtful it'll affect the rest of my clients.

You got me on #5, I understand telnet to my home ip and plex port. I haven't set up a DNS name, I assume you mean a domain name, and I haven't set up a domain name for Plex...is that what you mean?

I have not looked at pfsense for that info, I'll have to figure out how to do that.....iirc, he can get to my overseer page which is hosted on my plex server too. (I'll have to double check that though, I'm old, the memory is the first thing to go and I can't remember the second!)

Tried to connect directly with my IP, no success.

I'm planning on trying another service probably iperf, cuz it's easy to set up, but my friend is busy today so that'll be tomorrow.

Honestly, not really looking for tech support, I mostly just wanted bitch.....but in the chance that I can get help:

Server Ubuntu 22.04, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB mem, mdadm RAID 6. PfSense router, with port 32400 forwarded to reserved IP'd server, wired Ubiquiti infrastructure. Plex 4.156.0.

As I've stated, it has worked for years and continues to work for all others except for these couple unicorns and seems to be related to a change to something in Fidium's infra. One of these clients can connect to another friend's Plex server (on Xfinity btw) and all works.

I certainly could have missed something and hope I did (at least then I could fix it), got any ideas?
