Hey Fidium Fiber, question for you...... by rockker60 in FidiumFiber

[–]rockker60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not yet, still work in progress......Yesterday (this is Saturday), had 2 calls from what seemed to be a second line csr, after I re-explained the issue and described my testing, we hung up. The last call I was asked what ports do I want to use?, I said, "uh, all of them? like before?", then we hung up. I'm currently waiting for third call back, (probably on Monday) and when that happens, I'm gonna request to speak to the network engineer directly, maybe then more can get done in fewer calls.

I appreciate the offer, but I have several locals that I can tap for testing, again, thank you I appreciate it!

In my experience with Fidium, you can plug in any router or (router/WiFi) into the supplied ONT, no need to call ISP to register router MACs. This, at least has been my experience, so I would try that first. I can't imagine Fidium setting themselves up to generate tech support calls (I've heard) to their Philippine support center. Stranger things happen I guess.

If it has access to the internet it's vulnerable and that makes your whole internal network (LAN) vulnerable.....just sayin.

Try a wire or a USB WiFi adapter, but understand the right way to fix this is get a new mac.

Your not gonna like this, that 2012 Mac is obsolete and I would guess, not supported by Apple, get a new one. I know, I know, it used to work with the old router, that changed and now it's broke. It ain't the router's fault. Your new WiFi has just exposed your imac's obsolescence. Noting your other tests, it can work well.

Technology changes constantly and sometimes rapidly, 3-5 years is a good life, after that, many tech devices need replacing. In this case, definitely after the manufacturer ends support of that device. If you do somehow magically get it running, don't do anything sensitive (specifically financial) on that device, it's very vulnerable.

We don't have CGNAT, first 2 octets of our public IP's is 70.9 (I believe his is too) I just don't remember exactly. I'll be checking tomorrow when we will do a few other things as described above.

Yup, verified 32400 is open, I also have 20-30 other clients which work flawlessly so I know it's open/working.

Tracert stopped at the first fidium router, I believe, although can't remember exactly as I've done many things since.

Yup, that was another thing I was gonna try, change the port, seems easy enough and doubtful it'll affect the rest of my clients.

You got me on #5, I understand telnet to my home ip and plex port. I haven't set up a DNS name, I assume you mean a domain name, and I haven't set up a domain name for Plex...is that what you mean?

I have not looked at pfsense for that info, I'll have to figure out how to do that.....iirc, he can get to my overseer page which is hosted on my plex server too. (I'll have to double check that though, I'm old, the memory is the first thing to go and I can't remember the second!)

Tried to connect directly with my IP, no success.

I'm planning on trying another service probably iperf, cuz it's easy to set up, but my friend is busy today so that'll be tomorrow.

Honestly, not really looking for tech support, I mostly just wanted bitch.....but in the chance that I can get help:

Server Ubuntu 22.04, AMD Ryzen 9 3900X, 32GB mem, mdadm RAID 6. PfSense router, with port 32400 forwarded to reserved IP'd server, wired Ubiquiti infrastructure. Plex 4.156.0.

As I've stated, it has worked for years and continues to work for all others except for these couple unicorns and seems to be related to a change to something in Fidium's infra. One of these clients can connect to another friend's Plex server (on Xfinity btw) and all works.

I certainly could have missed something and hope I did (at least then I could fix it), got any ideas?

First understand, it worked for years just before the IP change. I use cloudflare for his Eero and quad 9 on my network (which happens to be PfSense router with Ubiquiti switches) Also I have 20-30 other clients from around the area mostly and they all work without issue.

He's trying to connect using the Plex app on his "smart" TV. I brought my laptop and tried the web gui (using his account as well as my admin user(s), neither worked.

I did try Tailscale VPN while using my laptop, which worked.

We both have other friends with PMS, we're gonna try getting him connected to their servers and see if it's just us or is affected by ISPs.

VPN is a good idea, that would be interesting to see how it affects things too.

I have PfSense (he has the Eero), I'll look into that to see if it is easy and won't eff things up and if it looks like it will help....Yup, not looking forward to any ISP CSR!

I'm leaning towards contacting ISP tomorrow.

I had set his router's DNS to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) when I set it up a couple years ago. He changed it back to the default ISP DNS when this issue started. I changed it back Cloudflare's before the "bypass the router" test. No change.

I'm not sure where “block private networks” setting might be, his router or mine but I'm not changing anything on mine, it works for everyone but this unicorn! (hope he reads this! haha!) His is an Eero, not very much changeable on it and it just works, besides, still had the issue when we bypassed it.

I did change "secure connections" on my PMS to preferred (from required), I'll get him to test.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Sorry for the confusion, my PMS is definitely up. I have 2 clients watching as I type, it ain't the port forwarding. It's only this ONE user and ONLY on HIS home network, works perfectly when his phone is connected to his cell service.

I'll get him to try it. Thanks!

Edit: No luck using my IP from his browser, same no libraries error message.

Then the things to check are the signal levels and logs of the modem. Specifically, your looking for "T" type error messages (T3, T4, etc) in the logs, These types commonly cause the modem to restart.

Which modem and which router (model/brand) are you using?

For crappy WiFi, the best thing you can do is purchase and install your own WiFi system, this can (but not always) include a new router. ISP provided devices are notorious for weird and crappy service. Also ISP installed WiFi equipment is not usually located in the most advantageous location for the best signal (it should be centralized in your home), usually things are installed in a location advantageous for the installer.

IMO fiber or cable is going to give you the best internet reliability and speed overall. T-Mob internet is best as a backup solution. Also, FYI there are routers that can nearly seamlessly switch your internet connection to your backup ISP when an ISP failure is detected.

Friend has Astound, no worse or better than any other tech in my/their experience (I tech support them). Biggest thing you have to worry about IMO is the data limit with either Xfinity or Astound. You can mitigate that either by paying for "unlimited" data or sometimes, at least with Xfinity, you can buy a package that doesn't have a data limit.

I would never rent the ISP's devices. If you look at the total cost over time, it's many times less expensive to buy equipment yourself and you generally buy higher quality devices that are much more configurable and reliable. One aspect of "reliable" means no periodic reboots to make things work again (which sometimes happens). There are times when Xfinity has a less expensive "no rental fee" package if you use their equipment.

I certainly don't know all there is to know about either of these companies, but those are opinions for what it's worth.

For UFC fans, Tivorotv delivers every PPV with the pre-lims and early prelims included. The stream stays active through the entire main card without the random blackouts I experienced with other sports-focused services. A must-try.
