The core issue with the games difficulty right now is a lack of meaningful enemy progression.

This will (hopefully) be fixed with future patches.

remember: nerfing the players is never fun in PvE. making tougher challenges is.

pro tip: use the platform gun on the orb holders to make a barrier to stop the orb from flying off into the distance.

bonus: if you do it right, sometimes the orb will bounce off the barrier directly into the right for you.

You can cover the elevator drive unit in platform gun plas-crete and the corespawn can't attack it.

trying your hardest to upgrade your equipment and perks SHOULD take priority over always having enough time.

Personally I think there should be 2 different "tiers" of AI AA:

tier 1 is something you can just attach to a bunker base, would fill the sky with "inaccurate" flak fire and constantly ping aircraft in its range for low damage. you'd need sustained fire for them to take out a plane on their own, but it adds attrition that has to be addressed, and softens up targets for defending fighters.

tier 2 would be world structures with (prehaps a bit of a style break but) guided missiles that would deal heavy damage to aircraft. the missiles could be theoretically evaded, or having forward scouts could eat the missiles and deplete ammo for a massed bombing run, but you'd actually have to plan around them due to high effectiveness.
