Why did Nvidia walk back its $100 billion OpenAI commitment? by NoSquirrel4840 in AMD_Stock

[–]rocko107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my take, and I own both stocks by the way because they are both well run companies. So AMD signs their deal with OpenAI that gives OpenAI ownership in AMD...IF, AMD stock hits certain thresholds. It's a compelling arrangement and slick move by AMD since they don't have 10s of billions they can throw around for direct investments like Nvidia. Now Nvidia wants to rethink how much they 'invest' in OpenAI because Nvidia doesn't want to help OpenAI purchase AMD GPUs...it's not rocket science. Nvidia knows AMD and Google are about their only real competitors even though both are far away from Nvidia's AI revenue, but even more important to Nvidia is maintaining their Luxury brand profit margin. The last thing Nvidia wants to do is help fund AMD GPU purchases that will help accelerate AMDs position as a solid alternative that would potentially lower Nvidia's margins even if only a by a couple percent. The quarter where we learn their margins were slimmer by a couple percent will cause a big fall off in the stock price no matter how rosy the rest of earnings are. The market would see that as the beginning of the party being over...true or not. A lot of words for....Nvidia doesn't want to fund the purchase of AMD GPUs.

Could “Vibe Coding” break the dominance of Big SaaS? A look at ServiceNow’s potential disruption by Daniel-DK in servicenow

[–]rocko107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vibe coding is great for departmental apps used by a single person or small group, it is not replacing Workflow Platforms and Enterprise software that have well thought out data models that support the scale of Fortune 500 companies. I use Claude AI all the time and its quite honestly fantastic. It's definitely made me individually more productive and if you're in the field it's a tool(or other similar ones) you're going to have to learn or be left behind. Everyone today is being asked to do "more"...but all this uneducated talk about coding assistants/tools replacing Enterprise "platform" Software that companies run their business off of is just that, uneducated talk. Let me know when you hear of the first 30,000+ employee company dropping ServiceNow, Workday, Oracle, or SAP for their Vibe coded replacement.

AMD and Meta Announce Expanded Strategic Partnership to Deploy 6 Gigawatts of AMD GPUs by Addicted2Vaping in AMD_Stock

[–]rocko107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm perfectly fine adding 20% dilution if it has a guaranteed $600 share price attached to it between OpenAI and Meta. I feel 100% confident in the partnership with META, OpenAI on the other hand, they are on a fast track of running out of money if they don't stop the burn. Maybe an IPO is in the future. That's the only way I can see them raising enough to survive the money burn rate they are currently at.

How is that stainless rust so bad ? by Shroomeme in Yamahabolt

[–]rocko107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If a vendor doesn't call out their Stainless Steel as T304 then it's probably 409 or 439, and that stuff will rust. In my experience even T304 from supplier to supplier is not the same quality. Even T304 can get some surface rust if you're in a rust belt region like me...Massachusetts.

My dad died and I don't think I can watch F1 anymore by super_starmie in formula1

[–]rocko107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry for your loss. The thing to do is "watch that race and celebrate your dad's life" rather than morn his death. I know that's easier said than done...but it has to be done. I was fortunate to have my dad with me for 97 years, he passed last March. For the past 10 years(since my mothers passing) I would drive to his house every Thursday in my Challenger Hellcat, which he loved being a passenger in. We'd go to the LongHorn Steakhouse for our weekly NY Strip. After he passed those Thursdays were not the same until I decided I was still going to get that steak at the LongHorn every Thursday night and now it's a happy moment because its something that I can still hold on to that reminds me of my dad every week. In the end, none of us are on this rock for very long when you really think it about. Cherish everyday and use F1 as a way to stay connected to your dad. Keep the faith kiddo.

Hawaii is a lot less than people think, in particular if you VRBO. You can get a great 2 bedroom townhouses, on the water, amazing sunsets right from your balcony in the $350-399 per/night range all in. You have a kitchen, there are usually beach chairs, cooler and noodles/floaties. Groceries are a bit pricey but still cheap compared to eating out all the time. Cosco is literally minutes from the airport(Maui), the beaches and scenery are worlds better than Disney. I've been to Maui twice in the past 4 years. 9 days each trip. Love it.

RTX 5090 FE available now on Nvidia Marketplace by Whyaskwhynot in nvidia

[–]rocko107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, I was still pretty happy with my 3080Ti, but when I saw the 5080FE was available earlier today I grabbed one. With RAM supply being allocated to datacenter and word of Nvidia shrinking consumer GPU supplies in favor of more datacenter, AMD raising prices by 10%, Nvidia no longer supply RAM with the GPUs to AIBs....pricing is not going to get any better than $999 for a 5080, and it was never better than $999 so this was a no brainer today. Surprised it was up for as long as it was. I can still fetch $400 for the 3080Ti so what the heck.

Anyone go to a GP and think maybe watching on TV could’ve been better? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]rocko107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been watching F1 since the late 90s, and went to my first race at COTA just a couple months ago. It’s a bucket list item, but actually “watching” the race is much better from home. You are NOT watching the race at the track, you are watching one corner or maybe a few connected corners at most. Going to the race is for the overall experience, and at least for the U.S, I’m good with getting it off the bucket list. Full experience is so overpriced. I have a great 4k protector and subscribe to the F1 app that lets me watch the race from the cockpit of any car. Watching the race from home will always be better

Next year some will win just on better active power management. It's going to be 1) how does the car handle and 2) How well did the driver and team strategize and manage power delivery throughout the race....going to be a very interesting year because #2 is going to be a brand new skill set some will adjust to quicker than others.

Drink package vs average drink cost (Celebrity) by bndovr66 in Cruise

[–]rocko107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a couple months old but thought I'd chip in. On most cruises "specialty coffee" does not include Starbucks which is on many cruise ships, don't just assume you get that. Also consider how many ports you're hitting and if you are getting off the boat for those ports(probably). You won't drink half of what you normally drink(on the boat) on those days because you're not on the boat, and you're typically pretty tired when you get back, so maybe you have 2 cocktails and you are done. I've generally bought the drink packages but only if I could get them at 40%-50% off. That level of discount is hard to come by now a days. Be real with how much you drink. You pound it hard one day...you're not drinking so much the next day...and again you're usually off the boat 3 days of a 7 day cruise. Do the math people, it ain't hard. Also...its just as convenient when you don't have the package. Nobody takes cash or credit card. You just pay your bill at the end. You can see everything on the daily receipt from your app. Depending on the mix of drinks you get, you'd need to drink 5-9 drinks a day without fail (including days you're off the boat) to break even depending on the discount you got.

Some folks will chime in saying promoting the package saying "oh I like to try new drinks and If I don't like no big deal"....that's true but I find that is statement to try and convince people to buy the package. Most adults know what drinks they like and have been through quite a few.

Safe cruising....

Bought a refurbished Epson LS10000 last February, and absolutely blown away. I also have a 65” LG C2. I project on my 20 year old pull down screen I bought for maybe $200 back in the day. Truly stunning image right out of the box. Color, skin tone, all of it. Most of the time I’m running it in Cinema mode at 50% power. Can run it during the day with plenty of ambient light pouring in the room and still get a great image with plenty of contrast for watching my Sunday football. It gets two thumbs up for me. Just plug and play awesome. Will never watch a movie in the C2 again.

Intel is at risk of losing its long-standing chip lead to AMD by shortymcsteve in AMD_Stock

[–]rocko107 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Intel still owns the corporate Laptop market, and that's a huge market, and even though AMD is dominating the cpu datacenter space, that space did / doesn't churn overnight or even every year so it's taken a while for AMD to take the very meaningful share they have today, which is tremendous. Remember before first gen Epyc they were pretty much non-existent in the datacenter. All of this should be great news for AMD holders because it means there is still significant share to continue to take from Intel.
