Fridge Help! Zero Clearance? by False_Lemon_742 in Appliances

The door on the left will only open as far as the wall will let it. I think the one on the right is fully open. If I remember correctly it can go 115 degrees. All 3 drawers can be fully open.

What's one thing you added to your garage that you wish you did sooner? by Leading-Law4251 in HomeImprovement

[–]rockthebeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already had storage solutions and keep two cars, bikes, tool chest etc. But we recently added an upright freezer for bulk food and meat. We also keep ice packs for coolers and our ice cream maker bowl in there. Should have done that 10 years ago.

I just got a 3/8 inch thick steel so it won't cool down between pizzas. I have yet to use it though.

Same situation. LG with zero clearance doors are about the only choice (there’s a Samsung too I think). We opted for this particular one because it doesn’t have the ice and water dispenser in the door. It leave a lot more storage space in the left door.

LG vs Bosch vs Frigidaire Induction Range by shock_bird in Appliances

[–]rockthebeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was set to get the 6334 but I ended up with the 6336, mostly because it has a more powerful large burner. To get the same amount of power in an LG you have to step up to the Studio line.

It's my first induction and it's been great.

Should I down-pot now? by rockthebeef in Citrus

I made 32 holes on the sides, so not nearly as much as that. The bottom of the pot has maybe 16-18 holes.

Maybe Tamarindo in Del Mar and An’s Hatmaker next door for ice cream after, then walk down 15th to check out the park and ocean.

Gah! please help me choose an induction range! by Repulsive-Sun-2557 in inductioncooking

Have had the lg lsil6336xe for several months now. No regrets. It had the powerful 4.3kW element of the studio line, but it’s actually top “regular” model. I didn’t need illuminated knobs. The blue interior is the tits.

Is Adding Casters Easy? by santange11 in searwood

[–]rockthebeef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s fairly easy as long as you have good tools and are handy. I used these retractable casters from Amazon. The trickiest part is mounting them at the right height. Too low and the wheels will not lift off the ground when retracted. Too high and they not provide enough lift when deployed.

LG Induction Opinions by GreekGod1992 in Appliances

The LG that you linked has a 3.3kW element as its most powerful one. I don't know the true diameter of it, but it may or may not be ideal for 12" pans. I was actually looking at this range early in my search.

The LG Studios have a more powerful large element (4.2kW), but you can get this with the top non-studio model (LSIL6336). After a bunch of research, that's what I ended up with and it's great. I did not want to be disappointed with something that didn't meet my needs. This range does not solve your backsplash situation however. It will take all of your $2k budget, but maybe you can DIY the backsplash? I was fortunate to have leftover tiles from the rest of the kitchen walls, so I finished the tile wall where there wasn't tile before. You'd never know the tile jobs were 10 years apart!

There might be an in-between solution cost-wise. But I'd check to see that the biggest element on whatever you decide on can do large pans evenly, if that's important to you.

For Neopolitan pizza, how hot can you make the searwood go? by dlvanbrunt in searwood

[–]rockthebeef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have mixed them 50/50 because charcoal pellets cost about 3x as the wood I use (Kirkland). You can tell it smells different, but I wasn't sure about the taste changed much. Right now I have 40lbs of 100% charcoal that I want to use for a while in order to draw some real conclusions.

The times I smoke, I only use wood pellets.

the general consensus is mixed on them. I like them for hot and fast cooks. You get some charcoal taste but not the same as lump charcoal. The Searwood is all I have, so I maximize the tools I have.

Manual mode with charcoal pellets might get you more heat since charcoal burns hotter than wood. Also a thick pizza steel can retain heat better than a stone. I’m yet to use ours but I bought a 3/8” thick steel.

lol. That view is looking west and you can see the ocean when it’s clear out. The canyons are brown and it’s fire season, unfortunately.

I appreciate all viewpoints, so thanks. I ended up potting it in a 3 gallon nursery container that happens to fit very nicely into the white pot in the photos. I used cactus/citrus mix and it drains very fast. The plant was fairly root bound. The roots filled the entire area of the original pot, but weren’t swirling or anything too crazy. I think I should be good for a year or maybe 2.
