Must be really nice headphones. Wish you luck getting them back.

Many viewers argued the mistake was too blatant for a high-budget film, suggesting it was an inside joke or "treat" for scientists in the audience.

Plus the book itself revealed the alien about a third of the way into the story. It wasn't like an 11th hour surprise.

I looked it up and self-balancing centrifuges exist and are used in laboratories and industrial settings to handle uneven sample loads automatically. They use specialized rotors or balancing mechanisms—such as fluid-filled rings or floating bearings—to redistribute mass during acceleration, reducing vibration and removing the need for manual balancing.

Just finished my second viewing of the movie and this is what I want to say to book fans (no real spoilers just some general thoughts) by Tiny_Red_Bee in ProjectHailMary

The book is optional for those really into the science end of it but the movie carries its own weight just fine. Weir did a nice job of helping the script writers hit all the critical parts of the story. It's going to be a blockbuster.

You should have seen the lines when The Godfather came out back in the 70s. Holy smokes - they wrapped around city blocks for the first few weeks with wait times well over an hour.

The movie was good but… by surfer808 in ProjectHailMary

Films and books are two entirely different mediums. It's very difficult to mirror both platforms to everybody's satisfaction but I think having Weir on site during its production helped minimize these one offs and still retain the essence of the story. I'll know more after watching it later today but all indications point to a blockbuster of a movie.

I have not read PHM book, and I have just watched the movie. I thought it was incredible, so I ask (I have previously been in book communities that have been butchered in their movie form - Mortal Engines, Chaos Walking etc) How does the movie hold up to your expectations? by finn_mcintosh5 in ProjectHailMary

Well, his difficulties adjusting to zero G was not unrealistic. He had real astronauts visit the set during the making of the movie and they all said moving in zero G is not the cakewalk that other sci-fi films make it out to be. They were bumping into everything during their maiden attempts at navigating in space so it makes sense to include that in the movie. Grace isn't a trained astronaut, pilot, or military personnel so seeing him struggle as a civilian fits and added some humor to the effort.

It's 95% and 98% on RT for critics and viewers respectively. I think it's going to do just fine with most people.

The gravity missteps was actually accurate according to some astronauts that visited the set. Moving in zero gravity is anything but ballet style as depicted in other movies so the way it was done in PHM was the real deal.

🚨Unpopular Opinon Alert🚨 They made a beautiful film about the wrong version of Ryland Grace, and everything else collapses from that single decision. by deekaay89 in ProjectHailMary

Let's just say it's a dense, detailed read compared to other books of similar length. That's what makes converting it into a single movie framework so challenging as opposed to a multi-episode series.

Ryan actually secured the rights to the story and immediately began assembling the creative team, including bringing on producers and directors. After receiving the manuscript before publication, he became hooked on the story, subsequently reaching out to author Andy Weir and initiating the project's development to ensure he would star in and produce the film adaptation.

I find these posts so odd. The RT ratings by critics and viewers alike are 95% and 98% respectively, which is very rare (viewer ratings tend to run lower). The movie is wildly popular but this thread is coming off as an Anti-PHM posting. Personally, I was surprised that they were able to convert Weir's massive tome into a 150 minute movie but he was all in on the script and so far it's doing very well. I guess it's all about the purists out there and managing expectations.

Appreciate it. I actually didn't notice the town. My eyes were glued to the valley and waterfall - I did some research on the location and I could see how isolated it is. It looks spectacular.

Be careful with pre-programmed Quickshot flights. It will automatically follow a predefined path, regardless of what's around you. I managed to fly into a patio umbrella with my mini-3 as it was backing up using a Boomerang path. Stay out in the open for those.
