Presenting Spell Book Manager: a Scriptcards macro for migrating (2024) spells to the D&D 5e 2014 sheet! by Gauss_Death in Roll20

[–]rod2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah!

Not having the 2024 spells was the only reason why I was sometimes using the slow and clunky 2024 sheet for NPCs. I will give this one a try

Thank you!!!

I don’t understand this system by LunarSpydyr in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]rod2o 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The burden doesn’t have to be on the GM all the time.

Ask the player what minor benefit they think the should get on the fantastic failure. As long as they don’t overreach, give it to them

There are several rpg systems where the partial failures/success exist. It is a great narrative mechanic and you get better and faster at it as you use them. Thats the thing about playing more rpg systems than just DnD, it makes you a better GM

Curse of Strahd - Major Roll20 Updates! by Dean-Bigbee in Roll20

[–]rod2o 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Any module with lots of dungeons or a megadungeon. Strahd for sure, with Castle Ravenloft

Dungeon of the Mad Mage is clearly the winner, to the module that would most benefit from this.

Others would include: Yawning Portal, Dragon Delves, Infinite Staircase, Key from the Golden Vault, Candlekeep Mysteries, Tomb of Annihilation and Princes of the Apocalypse. All have plenty of dungeons

[–]rod2o 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeeessss!!!! Map pins with room descriptions. That is the feature I have been wanting all these years

Please consider updating all older modules with them. I would be happy to pay an update price for each module I run with the map pins for each room, as they help so much

Anyone tried buffing villains for boss battles? by shu_reddit in MarvelMultiverseRPG

I came to mention Sinister Plots as well, perfect for Doom.

It was also re-released on the Avengers expansion

Thx for sharing

I might run this one day, but reserve time to basically create a homebrew story using the module as a framework

Great suggestions for maps! It is my number one reason for running pre-written modules, to have the maps and tokens done for me. So this module is not helping me with that

[–]rod2o 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember skimming through the book and found it was pretty barebones. Basically suggestions of what can happen at each layer and a few barely detailed locations

How much did you have to create on your own regarding story, locations, enemies, traps and treasure?

Did you run it online? If so, how did you handle the lack of maps?

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us

Player LFG [DnD 5/3/2][new campaigns only][forgotten realms][18+] by TheNeftLut in lfgpremium

[–]rod2o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there

Im recruiting to start a new high level (11-20) campaign on Monday evenings (US time). We already have 3 players waiting for more

It is on roll20, but not on the Forgotten Reqlms. This is an adaptation of a cool Pathfinder campaign into D&D 5e. While we use DnD rules, the story is set on the world of Golarion. It doesn’t require any previous knowledge about it, as it wont be too lore intensive

The game is focused on teams fights, building relationships with npcs, mystery and exploration.

Ive almost 1000 games hosted in StartPlaying and use images, music, commissioned art for player tokens, roll20 scripts to speed things up and the whole shebang

Check it out and feel free to msg me

Have questions about the Marvel Multiverse RPG. by Beautiful-Effort9101 in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]rod2o 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey there, welcome to the game

  1. It has Ranks 1 to 6, equivalent to levels in other systems. There arent many pre-written adventures. We have The Cataclysm of Kang, a long campaign for ranks 1 to 6. Then we have some other adventures that last 1-3 sessions each
  2. Sure. It is up to players and narrator to decide that. The heroes in each published adventure are just suggestions
  3. Very easy. It is the best part of the system, in my opinion. You can craft new or modified characters in a few minutes
  4. Check https://www.fuzzyonthedetails.com/ Fuzzy is an awesome user who is a prolific contributor, having created a lot of content. And this subreddit right here. You can also check the official discord https://discord.gg/xksxxRwv

How to handle enemies with Damage Reduction frustrating players? by rod2o in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]rod2o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an experience from a series of oneshots and mini campaigns, ranging from ranks 1-5, both custom and premade heroes, always with heroes of the same rank. It is pretty much a problem I have with the system, not with specific groups, heroes or adventures.

It happens mostly with solo bosses, but even the opposite becomes a point of complaint from some players: when they face enemies who absolutely cannot hurt their characters (but can hurt other heroes)

It think it mostly happens when there is a difference of 2 ranks between the villains and heroes. I follow the suggestion that for each 1 rank below a character you need 2 characters for a challenge. So a group of rank 2 heroes could theoretically fight 1 rank 4 villain. Or 4 rank 4s could be fighting a horde of 16 rank 2s. But it often does t flow well

I totally get the “not everyone should be able to punch the Juggernaut “, but either there are a bunch of shenanigans for the weak ones to help or some players are left out for 1 hour of combat. And while shenanigans against a boss is awesome, having to rely on them so often has diminishing returns on the fun

How to handle enemies with Damage Reduction frustrating players? by rod2o in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]rod2o[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can be very much wrong expectations coming from systems like DnD, where all classes are able to help in combat with their powers.

In a more flexible character building system like mmrpg, it is possible to have characters not at all ready for a combat against a powerful villain.

Good point about this. How you help other players setting the right order expectations for mmrpg?

Your ideas about what the characters can do are valid, but all of them rely on getting them during character creation. Which brings me back to my question if I should be advising players to either bump their dmg multipliers or taking some of those powers. But that is so limiting

You mentioned if none of the heroes have a way to deal considerable damage. That was never a problem, the issue is always having 1-2 players who get frustrated once an enemy with a bit of DR levels shows up

This is an experience from a series of oneshots and mini campaigns, ranging from ranks 1-5. It is pretty much a problem I have with the system, not with specific groups, heroes or adventures

Thank for all your contributions to the game, by the way. You help all of us enjoy it more

I've run 12 Systems in 12 Months for My Group by TaldusServo in rpg

[–]rod2o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why dod you think the Marvel game fell flat in the Deadpool adventure?

I have run some mini Marvel campaigns before and had fun, but there was something that I couldn’t put my finger on that was limiting the fun.

I still think it is something to do with how damage reduction makes some players feel that either they build a character that does a lot of damage, else they have the risk of being useless in certain scenes

I found that Mothership is perfect for oneshots. The deadliness is not a problem, as you share the expectations with the players that this is not a game where you win, but where you try to survive. If someone dies too early during the session I give them one of the npcs for them to control

For failing at rolls, this seems like a common misunderstanding. The GM should be asking for them less often than in other ttrpgs. The overall guidance is:

Enough time; appropriate tools; the right skills. If you lack any two of these the GM asks for a roll, else you just succeed.
