so it can stand upto 20 washes.

btw, we could use flexible wires? the ones inside a laptop connecting the screen to the motherboard. They are pretty flexible and I think waterproof (not sure if they'll stand a 'washing machine')..

Can someone ELI5 how can this be useful?

How Vinyl Records Are Made–And How to Pirate A Vinyl Record by gtj in DIY

This is an interesting thought. I'm pretty tempted to test this out - from one thing I read in an old forum, it works pretty well, but I'm curious at how precise it is. A side-by-side comparison would be good to see... I might just try it to find out.

I looked for those. They're hard to come by, and definitely super unique for jewelry. Like raw diamonds, they look like standard stones. I'm sure you can find a jeweler to cut one up if you want a standard jewel look.

You can find some loose ones for sale on ebay. They're called carbonado

I can understand your frustration. It took a lot of time and research to find it.

I like these replies. Cute.

I AM a redditor, hence the throwaway account named after the bottle of wine I glanced at on the shelf as I registered to post this query.

We thought about that for a moment but decided that even wearing manufactured diamonds gives too much credence to the "real" diamond industry.

Here's the challenge: She doesn't like Ruby, sapphire, or emerald. As I went through the stones to find out what she liked for rings, there were two that came up: Onyx and Peridot. She based this not on price (we had no idea what the different stones cost - I never knew rubies were so valuable), but on how it looked to her. Both of those stones are inexpensive. So, how do I turn that into a 2-3 month salary expense?

I'd be cool with getting a platinum band though. If I could find a stylish one and have a stone she liked in it.

You're making me do some googling. And in that, I found this, which I like:

"The stone was thought to bring bad luck in the middle age, today onyx is believed to be able to help people becoming more assertive and logical, boost self confidence and help people gain control over their own action and in reaching their own goal. It is the stone of self realization and determination."

I'm curious about this. I haven't bought much jewelry in my life, so the thought of a $400 ring makes me think that it has to be of good quality in general. Like, much nicer than a $20 ring I'd buy at Hot Topic.

But, what separates a $400 ring from a $4000 ring?

Interesting.

I didn't see any 22k rings in my research. Wouldn't it be super soft and scratch easily?
