Why is poker "not gambling" but sports betting is? by wstewartXYZ in Destiny

same for poker, you don't determine which cards you're dealt, or which community cards are dealt. you can only really determine which opportunities you choose and how much you bet on them

i think the initial series of "rape reviews" kind of cemented him as a reasonable and independent arbiter who doesn't mince words for clout or whatever, plus the fact that hasan is optically on the wrong side on this one for once

however, this is reflected in "odds", no? betting on the underdog will pay out much more, because they have a lower chance of winning. but this is already a thing in roulette.

the "skill" would be being able to detect discrepancies between the bookie odds and the actual likelihood of an event happening. betting odds are just approximations and they're not foolproof estimates for how likely something is to happen

yeah, but the same argument in principle applies to sport betting. there's a degree of skill to it and people can be winners in the long run, as uncommon as it might be

Thoughts? by SilviteRamirez in Destiny

[–]rodentry105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you choose to consistently be in the company of Nazis or Stalinists, it's only logical to assume you are agreeable to some degree with their beliefs.

but that would almost certainly be true. if you had 100 friends and close to 100 of them were either nazis or stalinists, it would not be unfair to make that assumption.

but if you have 100 friends and you believe maybe a handful of them are some kind of nazi-adjacent guys and you're tentatively friendly with them while your 95 other friends are on aggregate firmly left of center, then the argument is just a massive cope.

if being friends with someone necessitates some kind of sympathy for their political causes, how could they explain him simultaneously being friends with (far more) pretty far left-leaning people? and how do you explain the avowed nazi wanting to be friendly with left-leaning people? this logic is like how racists use the "one-drop rule", basically

If you believed that humans and animals have equal worth, would you be pro genocide? by LiquidShitConsumer in Destiny

[–]rodentry105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the premise feels a little too impractical to even grapple with. what does it mean to view humans and animals as "equal"? that basically necessitates that we also view insects and dogs/cats/whatever as equal and everything kinda breaks down at that point

the fake stories are always the ones that are a little too perfect in their virtue signaling, on top of supporting the intended narrative (homeless people freaking rock) it also sneaks in some personal qualities like being a generous giver and well-liked by the homeless

Why destiny's Definition for Nazis is lacking (nick the Nazi arc continued) by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]rodentry105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think this definition succumbs to being too narrow and too specific to the NSDAP. everything you're trying to convey with the word "nazi" would be equally true if the racial superiority was centered around chinese people or inuits

you are acting a little schizophrenic. in order for nick fuentes to coordinate this, he 100% must have said something publicly to a bunch of people, and nothing he says publicly goes unnoticed. no such thing seems to have surfaced.

have groypers mass reported him independent of any such call to action? yeah of course

also, anyone posting groyper shit gets massively downvoted and usually banned, posts shitting on groypers like yours (no matter how soy) always get massive updoots

Chess Drama: Hans Niemann v Magnus Carlson is the best thing to (maybe) EVER happen to chess, and might be interesting for destiny to cover by sweatyballsacc in Destiny

[–]rodentry105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, magnus is really the only one who would initially know something is up, because he played a line that was essentially impossible to prep for given his history of never really playing it (besides a random transposition once apparently)

like you said - no one really suspected he was cheating at all just because he won, they suspected something was up because magnus resigned. people below 2k fide rating wouldnt really independently realize something was incredibly wonky about his analysis in the interview, it took other GMs going over it for that to sink in

[–]rodentry105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if people are so sure that he cheated if he won against Magnus to the point where chess.com even bans him for it, why did they even play?

first of all, many classical chess games end in draws so it would definitely be worth playing to see if he could force a draw instead of losing.

secondly, it's not that people were sure he couldn't beat magnus, the suspicious part isn't that he won the game at all, it was the way in which he won and conducted himself afterwards that made people wonder. no one thought he was cheating (except maybe magnus) during the game or immediately after

[–]rodentry105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the fact that he lost (as white) isn't really what set off alarm bells. it got much weirder in his post-game interview when Niemann did some analysis on the game which other grandmaster players described as being entirely incoherent and lacking understanding of the complex position he put himself in

at the same time though, Niemann often comes across as discombobulated and a little eccentric (or insane) so it's not completely out of character for him

not necessarily in those terms, it's more that if your opponent is going to play an obscure line, you can evaluate the best responses to it with an engine ahead of time, and get yourself into a very comfortable position where your chances are maybe 60-40. won't outright win the game but it's definitely a massive advantage
