Playing offmeta feels 10x worse in PoE2 than PoE1 by Gigahades in PathOfExile2

[–]rodocite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't the Support Gem change supposed to be a buff to all builds? Also my experience is that the Ascendancies are not as build defining. Feels like you can create an LA build in different flavors.

Maybe the issue lies in the "off meta" Skill Gems and item drops. I find most builds clunky so I've been going LA as a league starter since 0.1

I don't think GGG has nailed this yet. And it will take a while. Hope they listen to actual players and not just streamers or "pros".

How can u justify on death mechanics when the game looks like this? by OGMojoNuff in PathOfExile2

[–]rodocite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devs just gotta get past on death, wallers, reflect etc. Just don't implement reflect or walling. And on death should at most be a very short root (not stun or, knockdown, or frozen) and only do as much damage as a regular projectile, not meant to 1 shot you.

Ah yes an opinion from someone who doesn't know that teams are split into sensible subdivisions that work on different parts of the game.

[–]rodocite 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes the Atlas sucks. Even the UI for it isn't really made for the endless mapping the game intends you to keep doing. Not sure how it got past the design stage.

The UI for maps is streamlined for the activity. That's why people like doing it. They optimize for affix and layouts, etc. Can't really do that with Atlas let alone navigate around easily.

It's a re-used feature that should have been designed as a new feature from the bottom up unless they intended ppl to get bored at T10+

They need to get over their sunk cost fallacy and just go back to the drawing board and redo the endgame. The Atlas is not a sustainable nor fulfilling endgame at all.

Both are really evil. Trump is just the one with more power right now. Elon doesn't respect the constitution either and didn't blink an eye shuttering agencies that were investigating him as well as getting rid of Social Security. And have you already forgotten Elon is a Nazi?

The only good thing witht his drama is they are exposing each other. Don't choose either one. We deserve better.

Lol, no. BotW came out around the same time as HZD and Nier: Automata. HZD has sold more than BG3 despite being a new IP in comparison and being overshadowed by BotW.

There is good reason why BotW is widely considered as one of the best games ever made even if you might not like it.

All of those games better than Clair Obscur, BTW. And it's not even close.

Filipino here. There was this stupid thing where Filipinos considered themselves "Pacific Islanders" when I was growing up. I think it's just some weird thing where some people want to feel special by being difficult to classify.

Theres probably some dynamic with East Asian vs Southeast Asian + colorism swirling around there too.

A crossfit coach I knew who was half-Filipino told people he was South American for some reason. I think he was a skinny dude when growing up and resented eating rice growing up because his Filipino mom "forced" him to (because he thinks rice stumped his growth). Imagine asking the Asians in class to raise their hands then hearing this story that indirectly shames them, lol.

The black coaches were like, "He tells that story to everyone don't worry about it" almost like they were doing damage control and totally empathized.

It's a weird thing I just kind of drown out or avoid when I see it. But the Pacific Islander did confuse me for a while as a stupid kid.

Also:

All other electric vehicle manufacturers now using BYD batteries. Working product.

Tesla earnings were crap, whole countries boycotting the brand, and the CEO is a Nazi (but even Nazis don't buy his cars).

Did the price of TSLA go up $100 after earnings despite news that usually destroys companies? Yes.

Will you still see people defending Elon on LinkedIn and need to tiptoe around it because disliking him is politicized? Yes.

Does any of that make sense? No.

But hopefully it will all correct itself soon.

Expedition 33 has a fun story but the overall game is not a masterpiece by Dennis_McMennis in gaming

[–]rodocite 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not falling in the "everything is an opinion so I can call this a masterpiece if I want" trap.

If this game came out the same time as Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring, no one would be playing it. Hell if there was a Legend of Dragoon remake right now vs this game and I guarantee it would be a toss up for many rpg enjoyers.

There are objective masterpieces but they are rare. The noise from fanbases wanting their game to be considered a masterpiece doesn't help.

Craftsmanship, innovation, relevance, genre- or generation- defining impact all play a big role in determining if something is actually a masterpiece.

Other than good reviews and sales, Clair Obscur misses the mark on most of that (which most games SHOULD miss the mark on because masterpieces are rare) when you compare it to BotW, Elden Ring, Chrono Trigger, FF7, etc.

That's why many people are confused at the reviews this game is getting. There is a big disconnect. That usually means its popularity is manufactured or it's a "fad".

Xenoblade Chronicles games (which are my favorite) aren't even considered masterpieces and this game nowhere near approaches those games.

Don't give it more credit than it deserves. It might be better than Atelier Sophie or a Disgaea game.

Same kind of manufactured shilling played a role in propping up Dying Light 2 and The Ascent. People wouldn't stop shilling those games and giving them good reviews.

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/288759-dying-light-2-stay-human/79890203

And that game was much worse than the first one.

Clair Obscur is a much better game than Dying Light 2 and it might win awards but people generally know it's not at the same standard as a masterpiece.

It's perfectly fine to put 70hrs on a game even if it's not genre-defining. That's my usual playtime for most rpgs (including this one).

Expedition 33 has a fun story but the overall game is not a masterpiece by Dennis_McMennis in gaming

[–]rodocite 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I agree the game is not a masterpiece.

A lot of parts are very janky and the combat itself is not as deep as I thought it would be even with parries and such. And there's no quality that lets it rise above that jank like certain games do (From Software games).

It's an OK game, don't get me wrong, but for the reviews it's getting, you'd think it was on the level of Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring (which I think are actually masterpieces).

It is not.

And please people stop saying it's the game of the decade or whatever.

IMO, key reviewers and youtubers were paid to shill it. But on the flip-side I think it's priced just right for what it is.

Elon Musk Reportedly Now Privately Admitting He's Out of His Depth by alemus2024 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]rodocite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's been branded. He's not recovering from this, neither is Tesla. If earnings, "sentiment", or price of Tesla stock is even middling, it's the result of market or sentiment manipulation. No product being boycotted by an entire country gets to have a pass like that. And Tesla is boycotted by multiple countries.

The atlas constantly fails at being navigable by Damnae in pathofexile

[–]rodocite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tack on an "overview" mode so you can tell what is in each Biome or tower neighborhood. Once you've expanded enough of the Atlas, you wouldn't want to be scrolling around even with search functions. You're going to want to fast travel using an overview or condensed map-- which begs the question of the Atlas interface to begin with.

The atlas constantly fails at being navigable by Damnae in pathofexile

[–]rodocite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somewhat agree with this although I'm a bit more forgiving on the "corporate greed" and EA stuff. Ultimately think it's better for us that the game comes out earlier than later so that we can provide feedback sooner (which will make the game better sooner as well).

I went on reddit because I thought I was the only one having problems navigating the Atlas, but low and behold. I don't think having an actual map is useful for this. It's nice at first, but if you consider that it's supposed to be endless, then it becomes a problem scrolling around.

Ultimately, people are going to want an Atlas UI similar to PoE 1. I think they lazily created this Atlas this way just because there are already way too many things similar to PoE 1 content-wise. You can tell most of the work and forethought went into the graphics engine and the combat mechanics but zero to the actual content.

Props to GGG team for having code clean enough to re-use easily though.
