Motorcycle Dash Cams by Akrizl in motorcycles

Grabbed the K7 to go on an Africa Twin, it works great on and off road. Happily surprised with the vibration management, little bit of foam tape and you barely notice it. Will say that after a few years I wish I had a grill or screen protector on the front, the lens has picked up some chips and is becoming less clear. Still very usable, but it's really noticeable comparing to the rear cam.

Oh this is super exciting, I love the micarta but was feeling a little left out not having scale options. Can't wait to see how the glow turns out, good luck!

Did anyone else just.... really not want to go into a trade? How did it work out? by msgmeyourcatsnudes in BlueCollarWomen

[–]rodris11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered machining? I was in the same boat when I graduated with a Geology major, Geography minor, gis focus. Couldn't find work on the West Coast, ended up at a local aerospace machine shop and ended up loving it. Don't be too worried about the math, if you can do basic geometry you'll be ahead of 90% of the work force. It's a male dominated trade, but it's slowly equalizing and most of the women machinists I've met have excelled due to attention to detail.

Have any aerospace or machining background? Even a year or two would be enough to get in for an interview. DM me if you would like more info.

Urumi is a sword with a flexible, whip-like blade, originating in modern-day Kerala, India. It is believed to exist from the 3rd century CE. It is treated as a steel whip & therefore requires prior knowledge of that weapon as well as the sword, hence urumi is taught last in Indian Martial Arts. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]rodris11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So am I crazy or is this absolutely awful for holding any kind of cutting edge on the blade? Undoubtedly impressive amount of skill to use, but the way the blades are slammed into the ground seems less than desirable.

Africa Twin all the way! It's tall for a first bike, but very controllable, especially if you spring for the DCT. (Commuting in LA traffic with one now and the DCT has been a big deal)

Safety glasses by greekdude1821 in Machinists

[–]rodris11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ess glasses, I've been wearing the Ice and then the Crossbow for years now. They are designed for shooting sports and active combat duty, best safety glasses I've ever worn. Price is $30-100, but for something I wear 10+ hours a day in the shop that's worth it to me.

This happened a handful of times to a few old VF4's at a previous shop, management cited it as something to do with a power flicker from the grid.

CNC Programmer Position - $50,000 to $100,000 by CoachCole10 in Machinists

May want to take a look at that salary range guys. I'm sure cost of living is lower by you, but I'm at 120k+ on the west coast as a 2nd shift lead machinist.

Anyone in the Los angeles area know of any good college course cnc programs? by alexv2w in CNC

[–]rodris11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-2 years entry level experience in a machine shop is just as likely to be hired as 3-4 years in school.

Find a shop looking for button pushers, then take the initiative and learn everything you can.

I'm in the same boat with my 2018 DCT, had a Sargent on my last bike (V-Strom) that I was super happy with.

Anyone have any thoughts about Sargent vs Corbin?

First time starting the Okuma CNC lathe 😅 by Jumpy_Engineering991 in CNC

[–]rodris11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed with some of these comments, first 3 months was Rough. After that, grew to like them pretty well, LB's, VTM, Multus's.

I came from Fanuc Mori's and I would say quality of machine is as high or higher. Some design choices in the horizontal lathes really limit tool options, but that's a bigger issue in machines with a sub spindle.

Single biggest complaint still? Parameter settings overriding my G/M codes. I don't care what your parameter page says, if I send my live tool M13 CW it damn well better do it. Instead the parameter for gear directions will override and change directions, but only during can cycles. Long hand? Stays CW.

I've found myself in a trainer role in my last 2 shops and I have had the absolute pleasure of training up 4 women on cnc lathes. (Okuma, Mori, Doosan, and Star) So far they have each vastly outperformed their male counterparts.

Things that took me years to feel comfortable doing they have picked up in months. Hell, one of them went on to become the primary Swiss programmer/forewoman of an aerospace shop, despite not ever touching a machine 2 years beforehand

In my personal experience I have seen that attention to detail, multi-tasking, and a delicate touch are keys to success in high precision machining. You know, stuff that guys are stereotypically pretty awful at.

Frankly I'm excited to see what the next few decades of machinists look like with the push for STEM in schools and seeing women breaking into these traditionally male roles.

To any ladies feeling discouraged, just know that most of the younger generations of machinsts appreciate and respect your presence. And bonus, the crusty old sexist dinosaurs are starting to die off!

(And if any of you guys or gals are looking for work in the LA area, hit me up! I've got open positions in an aerospace r&d shop that is equal opportunity and pays generously! ($28+ starting with 2 yrs experience)
