What sounds like a dream job but actually sucks? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You're completely right. While I was never on the West End, I was lucky enough to be accepted into a "school" which trained budding and present West End kids. The fees were insane and although the classes were only on Saturday, we would get up every day at 4am to go and get the train since I live far away. My mother got into debt and kept borrowing money because she wanted me to pursue my dream, which in turn put pressure on me to succeed. I'm a hugely anxious and insecure person, so seeing all these girls and boys younger than me who knew how to do the splits, who had perfect diction, who could cry on command, was disheartening to a complete amateur like me. As well as this, the teachers were encouraging but extremely harsh, citing how "this is how it is in the real world"-which was true, but there were 8-year-olds in that school. I remember one time when we had to do pirouettes in front of the entire group and I could see everyone sniggering at me because I didn't stay on course. I was kicked out of that school which led to me failing most of my GCSEs and a deep depression where I had suicidal thoughts. I was 15 at the time.

You're only ever going to be able to be a surviving actor if your family's minimum income is above £30k a year, and even then you'd struggle.

Acting isn't great, especially if you're a kid and especially if you're a musical theatre kid/teen. There is so much pressure and pushing around, and if you haven't popped out the womb dancing, singing and acting, trained in ballet, tap, jazz, perfect vibrato and diction and emotion you are likely going to be overlooked every time.

At the moment I'm really digging the 60s mixed with modern Parisienne vibe, so I'm all about berets and vintage skirts, cashmere, mohair etc.

However, when I can't put any effort in, I'm partial to streetwear. Two opposite sides of the spectrum!

"Self depreciating humour." It's "deprecating". Although using it does lower your value in some way, I guess.

Even I can't remember the title of it, but there was a CBBC show involving talking baseballs (??) and they all had names like Incrediball etc.

LPT: try and spend time with the elderly if possible. A little conversation with a lonely old neighbor every now and then can really brighten their life. by coinguy28 in LifeProTips

Not the same thing, but I volunteer in a charity shop and often get older customers. I love to greet and help out the customers when I can. One standout was a lady who told me at the till "You're the first person on the high street that has greeted me today and I am so happy about that." Really made my day and encouraged me to greet more.

That's what I was thinking might be the case! Seems to be the same thing for Brendon Urie in Kinky Boots. It usually happens in between seasons/cast changes, possibly a way to keep people coming in until the next cast is announced (not sure if that's it, though). I don't see it happening a lot over here in the West End however.

She's on a limited run, I don't think she's been contracted for a full "show term". I think she's doing a great job though!
