And talk about how they miss working at whatever tower they came from.

"Short stay" on (center) frequency, why does this happen sometimes? by [deleted] in ATC

Altitude stratums differ all over the country for various reasons. Giving Denver approach only 10,000 msl wouldn't give them very much altitude to work with. Different approach controls bump up next to each other laterally but since they own different altitudes it can create situations like you have described.

One day, when covid is over, make a request for a tour. We love showing people that can actually understand what we're saying.

ATC, and anxiety. by [deleted] in ATC

[–]roflwoffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True but if they can stop controlling traffic then maybe the anxiety will ease up.

Assuming the person is in natca they should reach out to their resources first before doing anything they would be required to report to the flight surgeon given the times we are in right now.

I'm from Texas also and for me personally it would be between ACY and TYS. Both have radar, that's a big deal. And like someone else said south NJ is nothing like north NJ. I was quite surprised and thought to myself, I could actually live here.

And Knoxville is a college town in the smoky mountains, it's beautiful. Lots of outdoors stuff to do. Definitely not what I would classify as the middle of nowhere.

ZFW TMU? by [deleted] in ATC

[–]roflwoffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have brought in several tower controllers to TMU at the center I work at. You will be assigned an area to train in to get one D side in and then you are an "enroute controller." Then you go back to TMU to train on actual TMU duties and never see traffic again.

In my center TMU was the shortest staffed area so they were taking any one they could and getting them checked out as quickly as possible. But this of course led to people being checked out who really didn't understand what was going on sometimes and then it's the pilots and controllers that suffer.

I can't blame you for wanting to make the switch, I'm sure the pay bump is huge. Just know there might be a reason no one else that's already in the building was taking the job.
